I am 54 year old, female. My doctor diagnosed papiloma after I told him that there is bloody discharge from my nipple. I am concern if papilloma is cancerous and if that is a possible sign of cancer. Thank you for help.

Hello.
Most bloody or watery nipple discharge from nipple, about 90%, is due to a benign condition such as papilloma or infection. Papilloma is non-cancerous. It is wart-like tumor with a branching or stalk that has grown inside the breast duct. A bloody discharge can be also caused by abnormal breast tissue, or breast cancer. But according to statistics that only 5% of cases are breast cancers. Look for other signs if you are suspicious and do more exams to be sure.
