O.k.....So I had a blonde moment...I've usually had brown discharge right b4 my period and right after. Well after my period ended last month, the discharge started and didnt go away. I searched online forums with no success, I saw the same problem I was having but with no answers to help out. I finally decided to go see the doctor. to my surprise, I left a tampon in and hadnt even notice. It was as if nothing was there. And me being a bit on the ditzy side, I even had sex. It had been in since my period, and this has been 2 weeks now. Thank God, I finally went to the doc or I could have ended up with a serious infection.

Oh my God, that was really a blonde moment! Luckily, you decided to visit a doc and not continue to search for some answers. I mean forums are great and you can learn a lot but nothing can replace doctor’s diagnosis.

You have no idea how lucky you were, tampons could have caused so much trouble if left inside. I hope next time you will be more careful.

Have you ever heard of toxic shock syndrome? This is very rare but very dangerous and life-threatening situation, which was first linked to tampons use. This syndrome is caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that accumulates in the moist, warm vagina after or during high absorbing tampons usage.

The bacteria produce toxins that may enter blood through a cut in vagina and our body responds to the toxins making its own anti-toxins substances. When the body makes too many of these, it may start to attack itself (or something like that) and immediate reaction is necessary as it may lead to organ necrosis (gangrene) and if not death than amputation of that body part.

This toxic shock syndrome can affect so many parts of the body and damage kidneys, liver, muscles, heart and lungs very fast.

A person develops high fever, tiredness, rash all over the body, diarrhea, low blood pressure and faint or develop confusion. If not started with antibiotics right away, severe consequences could occur.

I was even reading about a woman who lost her legs and finger tips here on this forum.

Maybe you’re not interested in the story but I am just trying to show you how lucky you were and not that blond to go and see a doc.
