from april 07 to my next period april 25 is only 18 days,and then i
started again today on april 11 only 16 daysfrom the one before , i have my
normal systoms but was shocked today when i started again !! instead of it being
bright red like when i start - it is brown like when i am almost done , what the
heck is going on - i am 40yrs old have had 4 kids i am not on the pill .

When I got my first period it was brown and gross also. It took months before I got my next period, and even then it was still brown. It took some time for my body to get "normal". I think periods come in all different shades. Don't stress.

Brown blood for an entire period is NOT normal. You should first talk to your doctor about this. If there is no organic cause that they can come up with then hormone imbalance and unhealthy diet are going to be huge factors. I was on birth control for years, had brown periods all the time. It took several years of being off of hormones and going thru natural hormone replacement and changing my diet and taking vitamins for my periods to finally return to normal. We are talking about 5 -6 yrs off hormones and also I go to a naturopath as well. My doctor has never been able to address these issues, even though he agrees it is not normal. Good luck.

i looked it up its normal the blood is just old blood that's been sitting in u due to the fact the ur on the pill like me and most others who post on this Im assuming while on the pill it causes the egg to sit Im on spot before te flow causing. it to grow old and therefore causing the color

i had my period not exactly in the begging of this july but somewhat going into the 2nd week.. or so i dont remember but it was in this month now its the end of the month and im having REALLY bad cramps.. & i bled but my blood is brown .. & the skin that comes out is dark brown. twice in the same month? im notsexually active i dont take anything im just scared.. what is it? some say stress?..

Just for reference: I am a virgin and am not on a birth control pill.
Every time I have my period, it's heavy and I get awful cramps, to the point I can not move. But this month I have had no cramps, and it has been small bits of brown at a time. I'm not really sure what's up, but I saw that drinking hot fluids helps, but I always drink hot drinks, so I don't think that's the case.

It is very normal to have a brownish colored period for a lady when she first starts her period. I think every woman does in the beginning.

I read this on WebMD, "You may notice that your menstrual blood becomes dark brown or almost black as you near the end of your period. This is a normal color change. It happens when the blood is older and not being expelled from the body quickly."
