I've also had this burning sensation in the back of my head after a sudden neck movement. I've had it since i was around 12, im 18 now. I currently box and its happened in the ring a couple of times after somebody lands a good punch on me. I have a feeling that it has to do with the neck muscles and me not warming them up before sparring sessions. I doubt that it has to do with nerves or anything else, but hey, i could be wrong.

I had this happen again yesterday! "Guillotined" described the symptoms almost to a "Tee" in his last post a page back! I was putting on a "Hoodie", and when i raised my arm and tilted my head back, ZZZAAPPP, it hit me in the back of my head, on the left side, just at the base of my skull. The burning sensation was super intense, and i actually cried out. It was as hot as burning fire, and I felt my tongue pull back in my throat, and got that electrical taste in my fillings! I also saw a flash of white light for that second. This "event" was prolly the worst they have been, and i'd say ive had it happen six times in the last 8 months now.... I can't imagine what it would feel like if it lasted more than one or two seconds. If it would be constant, i can only think that i would pass out from it, as the pain form it would be un-bearable.

I'vd been suffering from this for my life as well, and it just happened to me. I was laying on the floor and I had to sneeze, so I turned my head to the left when I sneezed as to not sneeze directly into the air. It happened with the sudden twist of my head. I knew that I must have pinched a nerve or pulled/hyper-extended the muscle in my neck. Like described by other replies, the pain was sudden and sharp, then the aftershock included a burning sensation up the back of my neck and across the right side of my head to my forehead. The initial pain did not subside for about 10 seconds though, and the burning lasted for about 3 minutes. Now, about 10 minutes after the sneeze, all the right top side of my head is numb and tingling.

The description in the question matched my pain, but the top voted answer made me very scared.
I should point out that I am 17, have no real serious medical conditions or relatives with any, and am not a very flexible person. If I had to guess, my inflexibility would be the reason I experience these pains.
I hope someone can view this thread and solve our problem, because whenever it happens, it is very scary and very painful.

Hey everyone.
I was reading about the burning feeling that you guys say that you get. A few days ago, I started to get a burning feeling going from my neck up to the right side of my head. I only feel it when I actually think about it. Apart from that, nothing. My neck feels a little bit stiff as well.
I'm not too sure if I should be worried or not.

Hello this happens to me too. This happened to me in 2007 and I think this is the worse experience I have ever had but I keep it under control.

This is a slight whip lash! when you turn your head too quickly this mainly happens hey? Its a form of whip lash and you just have to be aware of your movement with your neck.

ok, I'm searching too. I've had this pain and burning sensation probably 10 times in my life. Just floors me, last time I thought "I may not survive this spell". Two of my daughters have felt this also. My other children have never felt this. Today my 18 year old had to leave the basketball court. As other's I forget to mention it to the doctors because otherwise we have very good health. Think I'll make some calls.

Hi,
I just experience this sensation last night. This is probably the second time in my life I have felt the burning in my head. It began as a tingling sensation in the left side of my body and then the top of my head from the forehead up suddenly became hot. I thought I was having a stroke and almost called ambulance. Like you I am not finding out much with my research.

Lynn45, I get the sores too.. right after the terrible pains. Then comes the bruised sensation that lasts sometimes for hours or occasionally days. My PT has felt the heat too & is concerned that neuro isn't very interested. Just take anti-inflammatories he says.

I have the same thing! Usually it happens at random. I've had an MRI to make sure there's nothing wrong, & the results came up fine. Sometimes the sensations are VERY painful & sometimes the pain is mild. But when it happens, my head jerks to the side & there is a burning sensation in the back of my head/neck area. It would be great to know if you find out and new info. about this issue. Thanks!

I have the same thing. I often feel it as an "icy hot" sensation though. No answers and it seems to be getting worse. Chiro has resolved other issues, but has no idea what this is. Nothing shows on MRI.
