I have had a couple injuries within the last few years. My head seems to feel like it is burning and it makes my decisions disoriented. I dont know if it relates to my previous head injuries, but ive never had a concussion. It also only happens when i am sitting down and usually when im near a computer or talking to a friend. I dont know if you have had a head injury but maybe yours is similar to this.

I have the same thing that everyone here describes but it also feels like a blood vessel in my brain popped, and there is liquid inside my head.

This is crazy. I thought that this was called whiplash and I finally decided to look up the definition of whiplash. The reason why, when I was describing the intense burning sensation that will shoot up from the base of the right side of my neck, up into the back of my head and bring me to my knees immediately when I turn my head too quickly. She was looking at me like I was with pity and sayings she's never had that before. I look up the definition, find out I'm wrooong, and type in my symptoms to good ol' google. With leads me to you guys :) at least I found out I'm not the only one, that would be cool and scary: scaryool?

I have no insight to add but I was relieved to see so many people experiencing the same issue (not that I wish this on someone, but it's nice to know it's not a serious medical ailment). I've had this my entire life. It happened fairly often when I was younger and now that I'm older (27) it happens very infrequently and inconsistently. I've never seen a doctor for the condition because it lasts only a minute or so and has no lasting effects. It feels as though something filled with very hot blood burst right below my skull to the left or right and then warmth/heat spreads throughout my head and neck. I've never experienced the tongue numbness others have. It's also not debilitating pain for me - don't get me wrong, it's incredibly uncomfortable and disconcerting - but on a pain scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 3. I've never had any serious medical conditions or traumas and have no family history of any diseases. I'm subscribing to this in case someone finds a diagnosis but in the meantime I'm relieved this doesn't seem to be very serious.

I honestly thought I was the only one here. This post looks a little old, but I'll type my exp anyway, huh? From the ages of 9 to 14, I felt a searing hot pain the the back of my head, that would leave me rolling in agony, clutching my head, eyes rolling, and hissing under my breath. I was incredibly worried that I had burst dome vein, as it always felt as if blood were spreading through the back of my head. I never talked to anyone about it, and whenever it happened around people, I'd just wave it off. Mind you, it only happened 2 to 3 times a year. For a year, now, I haven't felt it, thank the Goddesses. I am now 15, and have really be looking for this ever since the first episode. So this is called Greater Occipital Nerve Entrapment, huh? And it can be a lot worse... I'm glad mine stopped. I'm going to talk to my mother about it tomorrow.

I have had this most of my life too. The only thing I have to add is that I remember when it started. I was about 8 years old and was getting ready to tour a TV station with my parents. We had just pulled into the parking lot and I stuck my head out of the window to look up at the top of the tower and my head got stuck. I literally could not move my head for about 10 minutes. After that I had a headache for a couple of days and ever since I've had this burning sensation everyone is describing. I can go months without it and then it will happen several times a day for a while. I wish we could get a definite diagnosis!

I just did that... I was playing a Chinese Game where you try to write a character and then you have to try to not be touched but I turned my head too quickly and it's like a vein popped and then all the nice warm blood was loose but than my face turned red and then I was scared...

I have also had this happen since childhood. Sometimes it may happen a couple times a year. Sometimes a year or two may go by without it. I'm 48 and have probably experienced this, sudden burst of burning pain in neck, approximately 30 times in my life. Others, that I mention it to, do not understand what I'm talking about. It occurs when i turn my head, i guess too quickly, and last just a few seconds. I have to hold my head and close my eyes to get though it. It would be good to know what exactly is happening.

I'm 44 years old, white male, in pretty good shape all of my life.  This has been happening to me for as long as I can remember.  Sometimes I go so long between episodes that I can't remember the last time it happened.  Sometimes I can catch it right before it triggers and freeze and prevent it.  Lots of times it will happen to me after waking up when I'm stretching.  The base of my tongue goes a little numb also.  I have asked a few doctors about it and never gotten an answer.  From all the posts I have read on here...I can't help but think it's nothing to really worry about....but who knows?  I wish we could get an answer.  If anyone has found out anything PLEASE POST!

I have been getting this same thing for years. Out of nowhere, I'll turn my head (not even very far), then I feel a snap right above my ear, and then it feels like someone is pouring hot water down my skull. The pain is literally blinding for about 15-30 seconds. It happens once every few months. When I was a kid I used to think my brain was bleeding.

I looked it up and this seems to explain it best: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/occipitalneuralgia/occipitalneuralgia.htm

This happens to me all the time is there anyway to fix it? Or do you just have to live with it?
