Hi all. I have just one short question: can acrylic nails cause heart palpitations??? My friend experienced similar effects but she is not sure about the cause. She believes that it could be from these artificial nails but for me it doesn’t seem to be connected.. .Your coments???

I don’t think that acrylic nails can cause hart problems. Actually, the only side effect that I know of is fungus. Of course, your friend may have an allergy on the glue used for that purpose, and that allergy could be the cause, but not the nails itself. Maybe she should check that out…

Yes they can! It happened to me working with OPI acrylic in an area that wasn't very well ventilated. I thought i was going to have a heart attack and i almost blacked out... Also, if i do nails in the house my husband's heart starts racing even if he's upstairs. We got in a huge fight over me using acrylic in the house. I knew it affected him badly, but I had no idea it would wake him out of a sound sleep on another level of the house... scary stuff.

Every time I get a fill done I get heart palpitations as well. As soon as they start grinding and the dust is in the air and I breathe it in… can’t be good for you. Going to start wearing a mask to my fill appointments I think.

Hi, guest.

It's definitely a good idea to be cautious when you notice a physical reaction like heart palpitations, especially in response to a specific environment or activity such as getting acrylic nails done. Here are some steps you can consider:

  1. Wear a Mask: Wearing a mask can help reduce your inhalation of nail dust and fumes, which might be causing your symptoms. Ensure your mask is of good quality and fits well.

  2. Ventilation: Check the ventilation in the salon. Proper ventilation is crucial in nail salons to disperse fumes and dust. You might want to choose a salon that has good air circulation or extraction systems.

  3. Inform the Technician and Salon: Let them know about your reactions. They might take extra precautions, such as using a dust extractor or offering you a more ventilated space.

  4. Medical Check-Up: It’s important to consult a healthcare professional about your heart palpitations, especially if this is a new or worsening symptom for you. They can provide advice and check if there are any underlying health issues.

  5. Explore Alternatives: If your symptoms continue, you might want to consider alternative nail treatments that don't involve acrylics or consider a break from these treatments to see if your symptoms improve.

  6. Note Other Symptoms: Pay attention to any other symptoms that may occur during or after your appointments, such as headaches, dizziness, or respiratory issues, and report these to your healthcare provider.

  7. Allergic Reactions: Sometimes, chemicals used in acrylic nails can cause allergic reactions. If you suspect this might be the case, a medical professional can perform tests to determine any specific allergies.

Hope this helps.
