I run Track & Field & we usually have very difficult practices. I also have extremely irregular periods. (Sometimes I miss a couple of months or they can come before a full 28 days) recently I have been paying extra attention because of the things I have been doing with my boyfriend & it has been worrying me. We have never had actual sex but we have had contact usually fully clothed. He has never came but I'm still paranoid. I started paying attention when my last period was Oct. 28th & things were done with my bf Nov. 11th. I received my period Dec. 18th & it lasted 5 days to Dec. 22nd. January 10th I did things with my bf again & on Jan. 16th I started noticing brown or sometimes a period color red discharge usually only when I wipe. It continued today (Jan. 17th) & I haven't really checked anything since this morning. I feel no cramps, I'm not nauseous, & my boobs don't feel sore. I feel perfectly normal except from the soreness from my arms & legs from practice. We train extremely hard & I am curious if this is causing my irregular periods & the cause of this discharge 4 days before a 28 day length to the next period. Please help me out. I'm really stressing this & the last time I stressed about this I had an anxiety attack.

hi, if your athletics is causing you a lot of stress to perform well then yes it can effect your periods just the same as another stress will. When you say you have been doing things with your bf what sort of things if you say you haven't had intercourse yet?

Well we've "dry humped" & he has touched me but like I said, he has never ejaculated & hasn't pleasured himself before touching me. Is there any way I could still be at any risk? I still have brownish red discharge almost like the beginning of a light period so I'm wondering if that's what it could be since it is 3 days early for a period?

I would say the chances of you being pregnant would be literally zero and its more likely to be the stress your under and the athletics that's causing them to be irregular. How long have you been having your periods for now an was they normally regular?

My first period was about 5 years ago & they have never been normal. If I'm lucky I'll get one right after another maybe 4-5 times a year. Sometimes they'll come at the end of the month & other times they'll be at the beginning or middle. I've been in sports since before my period started.

I would say its probably down to the sports but I would go see your doctor about why they are still so irregular :-)

Okay, thank you! Do you have anything about why I have brown discharge at the moment? Is that normal?

Oh! & last night I woke up to go to the bathroom & ended up throwing up. My mom thinks I may have over heated since it was hot last night. Any idea what happened there?

I have just done a little reading up and the discharge can also be due te stress, and I think your mum is probably right about why your was sick :-)

Okay well I'm confused if what I'm experiencing is my period or not. When I first talked to you it was just a bit brown & didn't even fill a pad, but on the 17th it became a bit heavier & I changed a pad maybe twice. On the 18th I woke up & it looked like a "normal" period flow to me & it was red. Throughout that day it kept at about the same amount but varied from brown to red & had some clots. Today it started off brown but when I wipe it's red but what's in my pad is mostly brown. I think it might be lightening up right now but I'm not sure. I'm sorry if this is TMI but I can't find anyone else that is much help & I have a problem with stressing too much. Can you tell me about what might be going on?

That's fine don't worry the more information you can give the easier it is to find out. As far as I can find out through different searches it is said to be normal for it to vary in colour through your period. Hope this helps :-)
