I also had dental work on five of my front teeth. Received a shot above each tooth in the guns. The last shot went in and I felt like my nose just opened up. Needless to say the novocaine didn't work in that area and received two more shots. Waited five minutes, still didn't work and then received three more shots. Finally numbed. U g h! Three hours later I was sneezing, and my nose was just pouring, nose hurts inside, burns, and had facial swelling on the left side (where all the injections were), upper lip was swollen and my nose. Three days later swelling is finally subsiding but the other symptoms have not eased up at all.

I had a couple of novicane shots yesterday and ive had the tickle in my sinus ever since, stuffy nose, sneezing and teary eye. Glad this is the first link I found as well!

Can anyone say how long symptoms took to subside? Is this due to a nick of the sinus with the needle? Is that the particular irritation?

Thanks, hope we all feel better soon!

Hey, so the real nastiness (non-stop dripping, sneezing) lasted about 3 full days for me, then more regular cold symptoms for a few more. I'm mostly back to normal now, a week later. I have a sore throat (may be unrelated?) and my tongue is tingly on and off. But it does get better!

I still haven't talked with my dentist but I'm seeing him again next month so will ask for his thoughts then.

3 days is no issue, its already feeling better today (after 2 days, so far). Ive been unfortunate enough to have a bunch of dentists mess up doing 3 crowns in my mouth. My tongue has been in pain for almost 2 years now and its just starting to subside. Crowns were too long, too wide and too sharp, but the infallible dentist denied up and down that it could be his doing...until 3 second opinions from his peers convinced him he was wrong. 1 surgery, 2 years and 6 replacement crowns later and we're almost done. This was all I needed to add insult to injury. Glad Im not the only one, it was refreshing to find this thread!

Yikes. So sorry to hear that. I've had my share of dental trauma too. I now need gas to have anything done to me! Glad the symptoms are beginning to ease for you. - Kate

Thank you for the well wishes. I had gas for the first time when I had my osseous surgery because of the high price of sedation. I hail from New York, where I have previously been sedated for wisdom tooth extraction, which cost around $250 for an hours worth of being knocked out. Here in Florida, they wanted $1000.00 every 30 minutes. So I opted for gas and a pill (the name of which i cant recall), neither one of them did anything for me. I am impervious to gas and the pill that was supposed to erase my memory just didnt work. So I basically had the surgery with novicane and thats it. This experience has been horrible and I dont wish it on anyone! Thanks again!

3 days to get over the very worst of it for me, and over a week for all symptoms to fade. Benadryl really helped - I just took it at night. Nothing else really helped.

The same story. An upper injection for my front teeth. I could feel a warm stream shoot up toward the right side of my face. My right nostril is so painful that sneezing is done with as much hesitation as possible. Over and over and over... Any word on the duration of this bizarre reaction?

Ive had that happen, many years ago and it was terrifying. I dont recall that lasting more than a couple of days/a week as well though. Im a guy who goes right back to the dentist and doesnt take any c**p if theres something wrong, so if I didnt go back, it went away, and Ive never been back for a nasal issue (thank goodness!).

I had the cold symptoms after the Novacaine and the dentist who lives next door to me, told me that he has seen this happen in patients when there is an injection to the upper gums underneath the front teeth. He said it is a reaction from where the needle went and the novacaine travels all the way up into the nose. That is why my nose was numb too after the injection. After the novacain wore off, I too got a runny nose and started to sneeze profusely for a few minutes, the another hour would go by, and I would have a sneezing fit again. Today is better the first day I had the dental injection of novacain. The dentist said that it would take a few days to dissapate. He said if in a week the nasal passage is still clogged and I am still sneezing make another appointment.
