I'm going to be slap mad if I gain any weight! I specifically asked my doctor BEFORE I got this shot if I would gain weight because I was on oral steroids last year when I had swelling on my brain and I gained about 30 pounds, (which I can't seem to get off). My doctor told me I would NOT gain weight with this shot, but after reading all of these comments, it looks like people do gain weight. I know everyone is different, but I swear if I gain weight I'm going to be livid.

Hi! So glad I just read your recent post. I WISH that I HAD seen all of this BEFORE I allowed a new Orthopedic Surgeon several months ago, to talk me into letting him administer a "LONG-ACTING" Cortisone shot for a torn Meniscus in my knee, as opposed to having surgery to actually repair it PROPERLY! PRIOR to the ONE shot he gave me, (after he assured me that I wouldn't gain weight!), I had LOST 26 pounds, and in the several months since I have received this shot, I have gained ALL of the weight back, plus even more!!! I am SO uncomfortable, that now I have developed even MORE problems with my legs and joints, due to the weight gain alone! I am 5'4", and I NOW weigh @200 pounds! I ALSO went into A-Fib after getting the shot, and couldn't leave the parking lot for a half an hour--sat in my car until my heart calmed down! Cortisone is ALSO notorious for causing CANCER! I'm a CNA, & I have had patients that have developed Cancer from Corticosteroid medications. Yes, the Cortisone helped my knee pain tremendously, (but didn't FIX the problem permanently, I STILL would need surgery), so I would HIGHLY recommend staying away from them, if it's possible to go with another form treatment!

...Also to add an addendum to my previous message.... I am currently in Menopause, and I definitely have seen that the Cortisone injection has progressed that immensely. My hair falls out terribly, and I have now since been diagnosed with a Vitamin D deficiency, too! As well as enduring for many months now, having to sleep with ice packs on my ankle, since my feet and ankle joints have swelled to great proportions. My weight gain is very much like the way it has been described in other messages. I look like the Michelin Man! A round marshmallow, and food cravings are bad... I try very hard to watch what I eat, and like others...it doesn't matter what you do..you WILL gain weight, BIG TIME! I literally started noticing weight gain in less than two weeks of receiving the shot! No muscle tone any more, and many painful, sleepless nights. New pains that I never had in my joints. Swelling in hands, feet, and face are absolutely awful. These are all things that Cortisone shots are known to cause, and I only received the one long acting shot. To make matters worse, the boyfriend of 6 years doesn't touch me since I gained so much weight! This is causing severe anxiety and depression, taking me back to the days when I took Paxil for only a year, because THAT medication blew me up in weight, too! Never again will I use a steroid medication!

I had steroid shots in my knees due to rheumatoid arthritis and over a course of a year have gained over 25 pounds and I have not changed my eating habits. If anything I eat less. The weight gain has made it even more difficult for my knees. I retain a lot of fluid even though I am very diligent about my salt intake. I will not have another steroid injections again!
