Don't know where to put this thread exactly....
For those of you that are talented/"front of the pack" type runners - What can we mere mortals learn from the top track & field athletes when watching them compete on the tube? Is there anything we can bring into our own training/competition?
I freely admit that I don't really gain anything from watching the track events. I mean they are super athletes with tons of aerobic conditioning, but I'm at a loss as to what/how I can learn anything from them. In contrast, when I watch a pro tennis match... I can always learn something to take back to my own game whether it's singles or doubles.

From the races themselves, I think even a relatively normal runner can learn something about race strategy. You can use the same techniques to squeeze past another runner for an age group placing, only obviously at a completely different speed!
Beyond that, I think you need to dig a little deeper into the motivation, drive, and training these athletes do. I think you would be surprised that the Olympic athletes really aren't as different from you and me as you think they are.
