I believe it can. I thought I was getting lucky and beginning menopause because my period was already 2 weeks late and there were only 3 days left in the month. But I went into the doctor for xrays of my stomach and chest for bariatric surgery and the next day POOF! my period had started!

I had a chest x-ray a few weeks ago and my cycle was 8 days late. I have never been this late for over 12 years. I took a pregnancy test, which was accurately neg. The nurse says with the new tech. (for x-rays) we get more radiation from walking outside. I didn't believe that. And there's no shield for a chest x-ray.

The doctors, nurses, and dentists are pushy if you refuse. Not good for our bodies if we don't need it. First thing in the ER meds and X-rays!

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience too. This was enlightening.

No, X-rays do not directly affect menstrual periods. However, if a woman has to undergo an X-ray or other radiation therapy as part of a medical treatment, it can affect the hormones in her body, which can then affect her menstrual cycle.

Are you really sure you got your period?

Yeah me too! I had to search to see if it was out of the ordinary. Mine are heavy and usually last a week so I hate them. I was finishing my cycle the day before, then x-ray then I started another cycle the day after.
