This sounds very similar to my symptoms. I had herniated discs in the C4 & C5 and had a bone fusion and plate put in in March/2014. Was just getting back to feeling like myself; when I was in an accident in which I fractured my C7 and herniated the 6th. They went back in and redone everything and fixed the broken one. I have had numbness and tingling in my right arm and hand and fingers. I had it since the accident and it is still with me after the surgery. Doctor says it may never go away; that I have nerve damage and spinal cord damage. If you are having numbness and tingling and burning; you need to see a doctor. Don't put it off; it will only make it worse; even your recovery. I put off the first surgery for five years and paid dearly for it. Find a Great Doctor and get help. Good Luck.

Yes I just was awarded social security disability. I have had three anterior fusion and having a forth operation. C4 - C-7/posterior.
Good luck. I received award on my first attempt , had an attorney, no fees unless you win. You must be disabled from work at least five months to be considered.

I have had this same surgery and also had to go back and have c-3 fused I am in severe pain a lot of times. I have applied for disability for this and the chances are very slim only because so many people have had this done and recover very well and how no major problems.I don't get it but this is our government.Give drug addicts disability but not people who are disabled?? Just say!! Keep trying as I am..

I know this is late but I think I can help. If your scans were showing compression at the c6 & c7 nerve roots (c5/c6 & c6/c7) then the pain would usually be bad in your shoulder, dorsal forearm and thumb, Iindex, middle and inside half of your ring finger. Those are the areas fed by those nerve roots. The ulnar nerve (funny bone) and your pinkie and outside half of your ring finger are service by your c8 root (c7/t1). It is probably intellectually challenging and confusing for your doctor because what the radiologist retort says does not line up precisely with your symptoms. I've had 5 (& am having in for number six) spine surgeries but just based on pain alone I was always able to identify what nerve roots are problematic before I even had my Evans done and I've always been right. When the perceived pain matches what the scans show then I'm sure doctors fell comfortable about what needs to be done. However, when there is a disconnect between the two I could understand why there might be some hesitation/trepidation. I hope this has been sorted out for you since your post a year ago. -Todd

Consider yourself a very blessed and fortunate person... I too suffer like crazy .. Had a c4-c7 almost 10 mths ago and then had another surgery where they scraped arthritis from a bone in the back called the facet almost 5 mths ago ... Still in a lot of pain.. I've been referred to pain Mgt now .. The surgeon says I am able to work and the surgery 'looks' good... He doesn't want to admit it put me in A LOT. More pain than before!!

Hi, sorry to hear about everything you've been through. I had my first surgery 2013 ( June ) and second surgery 2014 ( June) my surgeon had to revise the plate and screws which had started coming back out a great deal. I had never stopped hurting from the first surgery when I had the second one and I'm still in pain. I still have some tingling and slight numbness in my arms and fingers. I have very intense pain that shoots through my neck and travels to my collar bone and down my arm, sometimes when I touch things it feels like I'm touching needles and sometimes the front of my neck feel like I'm having cramps in it as if a Charlie horse but without the pain of a charlie horse but it's very uncomfortable with some pain. My surgeon said that he never said I would get better cause I was in pretty bad shape. I have been on pain meds for over 3 years and I have had cervical shot which didn't do anything and the pain meds only helps ease the pain but I'm never pain free. Surgeon says he doesn't know why I'm still in pain but says these things happen. I've taken therapy 4 times and I fear of having to have another surgery. I'm depressed and I feel there's nowhere to turn . I don't know if during my second surgery the surgeon had any complications taking the screws out but I'm still having lots of pain including nerve pain. I read that sometimes there is permanent nerve damage and post opt pain. Hope you get better and find the answers you need and if you've already found a solution can you please share cause I really don't know what else to do. I've asked for EMG last year and my Dr still haven't scheduled one.

I am 49 year old male, have had 3 surgeries cadaver bones, implants all of it, now fused from c2 to t2 applied for SSDI a year ago, denied twice now at the state level where they say it will take 18-24 months. The wait time depends on how backed up the court for your area is. If it is an extremely backed up court, you are going to wait unfortunately. I also have a representative working for me, but that makes no difference in your waiting time. Every one I speak to is surprised it has taken me this long since I hadn't applied until my 3rd surgery was scheduled even my primary care doctor thought this should have been nothing but a formality

I had c5 c6 neck fusion, still have left arm and left hand numbness and pain. I had the surgery over a year and a half ago. It is a workman's comp case and the process continues painfully slow. The cadaver bone used in the fusion never took, so I'm looking at an additional neck fusion surgery. But, as far as SSDI goes, I'm happy to report a firm named Allsup, was able to get me my Disability Benefits very quickly. I guess, what I'm saying is sorry for everyone's misfortune of being injured and having to endure all this pain, but give Allsup a call and see if they can help you? Good luck!
