Okay back in October I had a bad run in with some side effects from Tramadol, it almost gave me a heart attack. Since then I haven't touched it. I have been putting up with a consistent pain in my shoulder blade for quite some time now, but since mid October arm and pectoral pain have been an on and off kinda thing. About a week ago now I started to experience the consistent need to burp to help relief this almost gas like pressure in my chest. When I burp I feel better for a few moments than the feeling comes back. I think my arm, neck, and part of my chest is related to the knots, twisted muscle, and strained muscle in my shoulder blade. I do take soma to help with the muscle tension but I haven't had it for almost a week due to not having the money for it. I have taken various pain killers such as Hydrocodone and Oxycodone, it doesn't give me the same side effects as the Tramadol does so it helps with the pain for the most part but it makes my paranoia worse. I have also taken anti-acids and a few other OTC medications to help reduce the gas feeling but none seem to work very well. I see my doctor next week but would like to know if anyone has any ideas. I'm a 22 year old male if that helps out any. Thank you.

Hi JC,

Tramadol can give you heartburn.  Hydrocodone can give you stomach pain, and oxycodone can make you constipated and also give you nausea and vomiting.

It very well could be these medications that are affecting you.  I assume they were prescribed by your doctor and you're not just taking them.

Some OTC meds can react with these medications.  Check with your doctor before taking anything.

Hope it helps.

Well it turns out its some minor acid reflux, I was told if I start getting sharp pains in my upper abdomen I need to get checked out asap it could be due to a hernia. The reflux and the tensing of the muscles near my shoulder blade are whats causing it all. Doctor said my heart was extremely healthy for someone who is over weight, a smoker, and been using narcotic pain killers for a long period of time. He had me double up on my does for Soma to help with the muscle tension and suggested breathing exercises which are easy for me since I use to meditate. And for break through pain oxycodone. Then to try using something like Prilosec for any pressure gas pressure reflux.
