Hi Guest,

Likely it would be cardiology that you see.  The cough may be caused by the SVT's.  Actually, coughing is one way that can help slow down the heart.  It's a vagal type exercise.

Basically, watch your weight and limit alcohol intake.  There is a surgical procedure that may be available, it's called cryoablation.  They literally freeze part of the heart (AV node).

Ask your cardiologist.

Good luck.

If you have a cough that won't go away, I would go to a pulmonologist. I had the same problem a year and a half ago. When I had a coughing fit, it often ended up with bronchospasm, tightness in my chest, and difficulty breathing. My pulmonologist said what I had is often misdiagnosed as COPD, but in fact was an atypical respiratory infection caused by mycoplasma bacteria. Some people are prone to them, and they are not highly infectious, so one person in a household may get it but no one else. He said many doctors are sceptical about the existence of these infections, but I'm a believer because after a couple weeks on azithromycin I was good as new!

My 2yr 8month old is having surgery tomorrow but has a cough and running nose. Will they cancel it or go ahead and do the surgery?
