I have suffered from Degenerative Disk Disease for 3 years during which time I have taken oxycontin 80mg 3 times daily (I started on 20mg 3 x daily, worked up to 80mg). The Oxy stopped working, and I was told I needed to have 3 surgerys. After 2 back surgeries (one was a fusion where an implant (AIF?) was placed) I lost my insurance 6 weeks after my fusion, just when I started to get my pain under control. Now I am unable to work because the pain is SO BAD, and am having trouble finding a doctor who will work with my 'cost' issues. I went from 80mg Oxycontin 3x day to oxycodone 10/325 four times aday. This is NOT working and don't know what to say to the (new) doctor who keeps telling me we can only increase dosage once a month. I am ready to die because the pain is so bad! Any suggestions on what I need to say or do?

I'm sorry that things are tough for you right now. If you are unable to work because of pain, have you looked into worker's comp and Medicare to help you with your insurance situation? As for your new doctor, I suggest open communication and honesty. If it's not working, you need to let him/her know that it's not working and you need try to do it as soon as possible or change course of treatment because your pain is debilitating. Keep us posted.
