Hi all. I am a police officer and have a question regarding midnight shift sleeping. My dept works three 8 hour shifts and we rotate every 28 days. I am on the midnight shift again and I wanted to know if the veterans had any advise on how to tackle the sleeping question. You see, I usually go to bed around 8. But, during the nightshift, when I get home, I usually wake up at 4PM and feel wasted. I know my circadian rhythm is probably screwed up now and on my days off, I screw it up even more! I'd like to know what others do and hear all you suggestions. As I still have no kids my schedule is not a problem.

I don't know Jim. All I can say is that shift work really sucks!! Same thing applies to a 28 day rotation!! Medically speaking, it sucks even more because just when your body is getting used to being up (or at sleep) you change again!!! I can tell you that form my own experience!! All the years that I worked like that, I was a nothing less than a zombie. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it…
