After becoming hot and sweaty on a hot or very warm day, is immediately drinking some very cold water, directly from an ice chest, a health risk or is room tempature water better? JE

Room Temp and room temp only.
Cold water makes it even harder for the body to cool down and causes stress on the immune system.

Hello,

Chances are that nothing bad will happen if you drink ice cold water when its warm outside, but that is true only if you’re not doing that all the time and especially if you have or if you even suspect you might have a health problem. Most of the people drink cold water because it does give a better “sense” of refreshment when it’s hot.

However, it’s not the best idea to expose the body to the extremes. Your stomach will react to the water that is much colder and it’s even more the case when your body temperature already is bit higher, for example when you exercise or when it’s extremely hot outside. The rule that works here is as with most things it’s probably won’t harm you if you keep it moderate.
