Although they still don’t have the reason why, health experts spotted a decline in unhealthy blood pressure world wide.

The study included data from 21 countries across four continents and found that an overall blood pressure had decreased by more than 2 mm/Hg over a 10-year period.

First they suspected it was due to a large use of antihypertensive medications but the results showed differently. The thing is that the medications are being taken only by those people who have extremely elevated readings and the falling blood pressure was seen across the spectrum of blood pressure levels.

The decline was seen in low blood pressure, mid-blood-pressure as well as high blood pressure readings in the populations being studied.

Experts believe that the main reason of the dropping rates are not medications and physician interference but that a better medical care has certainly contributed the fall.

When they thought about the possibility of better diets and more exercise, they remembered that they would also see a decline in obesity and insulin resistance, which was not the case.
The availability of fruits all year long and increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables are certainly contributing to the new trend. Public awareness of folate, calcium and other key nutrients benefits may have something to do with it.
Although the reason is still not known, the overall impression is positive because this would mean that the rates of heart attacks and stroke are in the decline too.
