I honestly thought I was the only crazy one with this problem but I feel so much better knowing there's other people like me! I first got my period when i was 13 and I've never had a normal period. I once went like seven months without a period and it's been downhill from there. I've now been bleeding for two and a half months now. It's not the first time this has happened. It's happened two other times and I've gotten medication to stop it but now this time I took it and I'm still bleeding! It's so frustrating as you all know! I just get so fed up and depressed because it's so abnormal and ot to mention getting expensive! I'm 19 years old and everyone always says i should just go on birth control but my mom doesnt watnt me to. I try to explain what's going on to my boyfriend, friends, and mom but they don't exactly understand but it's nice to know i can talk about it with you guys on here who totally get it!

In my case, my constant bleeding is because I'm having hormone problems... so to correct them, my doctor put me on birth control for 3 months. It stopped the constant bleeding, but now I'm back to not bleeding at all. The only solution seems to be to lose weight. Since I had gained so much, he said the hormones get stored in the fat cells and isntead of giving me a regular period, I'm either making too much or too little of the hormone for my body to know what to do, so that's why I either bleed every day, or none at all. (I'm happier with none! lol) So now I guess it's time to get this weight off and then we'll see what happens. I've lost 15 pounds so far, and I'm already starting to spot here and there... Pregnancy tests still say negative, so I know it's my body trying to get back into working order.

I was amazed to find these posts, I never realized so many woman were going through the same thing I did. A little background...I always had awful periods when I was in my teens; very painful cramping, hot flashes, throwing up. In my early twenties I decided to try birth control pills in hopes that they would relieve me of all those symptoms. They did help a little but I felt weird on them, and weird really is the best word that describes how i felt; you know when you just don't feel right, I felt like I was changing and didin't like the idea of messing with my hormones artificially. So, i stopped taking them, I was about 22, and had been on them for maybe 6 months. I felt better for it but I completely stopped getting my period. I would go for 3-6 months of no period then I would maybe have one, where I still had horrible cramping. So I started the rest of my twenties looking for answers. Granted at times I was relieved to not have it and those horrible symptoms. But I knew it wasn't good for my body! I went to gynecologist after gynecologist. I had ultra sounds..nothing! Thyroid tests..nothing! I was even told I may never be able to get pregnant. Finally I was put on a hormone pill, progesterone or estrogene I believe, for ten days durung the month. this didn't help. But it did assist my stress in making my long, thick hair, that I had since I was little to start falling out! I stopped the pill and started using a folic acid shampoo a hair dresser told me to try. An extremely short hair cut later and my hair was back to normal, but still found no solution. Then at 30 years young I started having a constant period, it lasted for over a month. During this time, completely frustrated and scared, and now trying to diagnose myself, all I found was that I may have endometriosis and need a hysterectomy. I read some books on natural cures for endometriosos, one in particular by a western doctor turned naturopathic docotr. A lot of what I read made sense! Western medicine had some flaws and wasn't working on me, so I decided to see a Naturopathic doctor. She had me take a blood & urine test to check my levels of hormones, cholesterol, you name it. She put me on a some vitamins, and other natural medicines and for the bleeding a homeopathic thyroid medicine,10 drops - twice a day. 3 days later the bleeding stopped. Then to get my periods a natural progesterone cream, I took for 10 days out of the month. Finally at 34 I have relief! I no longer use the cream because I get my periods regularly, but if I don't I can just use the cream, and I have cramping but not near as horrible as before! And I have to say the cost was much less going this route, even though insurance did not cover it...go figure! I know eveyone is different, but having gone through this since my teens, the best advice I can give is try not to use birth control pills; there are other ways to protect yourself during intercourse, and see a naturopathic doctor, or someone who knows about eastern, natural medicines. It worked for me!!! I have not tried to get pregnant so I guess I will cross that bridge if and when I come to it. But I know I have a better chance then I did before! I am so sorry to hear anyone else has to go through this and hope that this helps someone out there! Take care of you! :-)

I am also amazed that there are so many women with this problem. I have been bleeding since Dec. 2008. I finally went to the dr. and had a transvaginal ultrasound and found that I have some small cyst and my uterine lining was 5-6 times thicker than it should be. My body is producing too much estogen...endodemtrium dysplasia is what he called it. I was put on some progestrone pills to stop my period and I am scheduled for a D&C, biopsy, hysterscopy and a laparoscopy on May 18th. If this doesn't stop the bleeding I will problem have a hysterectomy since I am not planning on having more children.
The pills have since stopped my period and I can't tell you how nice it is to not have to wear any pad/tampons.

Let me start off by saying that I never had a regular period. I never knew when it was going to happen. This all started when I was 16. Then I started taking all kinds of birth control..Including depro-provera (Spelling?). The Depro mad me bleed for months and months so I stopped taking it. I would have periods that would last for 6 months at a time. Now I am 25 and I have been bleeding for almost 2 years. This is ruining my life. I lost weight (almost 50 lbs), changed my diet..nothing works. I didn't go to the Dr because I did not have insurance. I went and applied for medicaid and got it. So tomorrow im going to the Gyno..and hopefully get this settled. I will keep everyone updated.

Thank you ladies for making me feel not so alone.

Lately I've been feeling suicidal and depressed, tired to the point of listlessness because of this issue.

Had a pap smear within the year, came back clean. Very irregular periods, sometimes going for months without one. Now it's been over a month and constant bleeding - from brownish to bright red. Gigantic clots that look like slugs. I am overweight. Feet and ankles swell periodically, but I sit a lot so that could be the culprit. Sex life is nearly nonexistent. Recently had sex because flow stopped for one day, but started right back up again. I'm practically homebound, will not go out unless absolutely necessary.

Again, thank you. I'm going to try some of the natural remedies and see what happens.

same problem as everyone else except iv had it before 2 years ago. I was bleeding for two months and the doctor put me on the pill and it sorted everything out, I have polysystic ovaries which was why id hardly had a period and the pill regulated my periods. Anyway i came of the pill in january so me and my boyfriend could try for a baby. I didnt have a period for six motnhs untill June 2009 when it started after sex, there was like brown discharge in my cum. The next day it was gone, then we'd have sex or foreplay, if would be there again, then gone, Gradually as the weeks went on the discharge got worse in my cum and basically now iv been bleeding for three weeks, very very heavily. My doctor has booked me in for an ultra sound and iv booked another docs appointment,. I dont wanna go back onto th epill otherwise ill never get pregnant, I am over weight so it could be that.
ill let veryone know what i get told in the future,
nice to know theres plenty of people in the same boat.

I too have all the symptoms listed above. I had never given birth or been on BC, so I was hopeful that going on BC would fix the problem. It did not, and I continue to bleed CONSTANTLY. It has now been six months. After many tests and exams, and three different gynos, I have no idea what to do. I'm 25, and this is really trying my (new!) marriage, and my life in general. I have called into work a couple of times because I feel like I need to stay home and sit on the toilet all day. I'm at my wit's end.

Dear All,

I had a miscarraige last year and had a DNC. Before this event my periods were normal. I cam back on 4 weeks after the miscarriage and my periods we normal till September. Then I missed 6 months. I cam on in March and my periods were long. I am currently on a period which started 23 days ago. I have not been to see a doctor as I am too scared. I just want life to resume back to normal and we can start trying for another baby. I am overweight so i think this doesnt help.

Hoping someone will read this and reply.

Could this be cervical cancer? I bleed just a little when i wipe everytime i go pee. I have no pain. I did have my period for about two weeks and my period is verry very irregular. I'm going to get a pap smear for the first time on friday, i'm only 19 no history of cancer on both sides of my family, my diet is horrible i'll admit trying to do better. I'm always very tired, and my doc said it was because i lost alot of iron, i will be going to the lab to get some blood work done. I am also sexually active, this is the first time this has happen, it's very light red blood and i have no pain. Help!

I have been bleeding for 8-9 months now, non-stop, sometimes it will slow for a few days and comes back even worse. Before then I missed my period for 6 months, and I knew it was because of my sudden weight gain, now I am really scared, sometimes the blood is so coagulated to the size of a grape or chunks, I don't know what to do, and medical care is so expensive. I am always tired and I think I might suffer from thyroid and liver problems, as I live with constant liver pains and my mom was diagnosed with thyroid problems. If anyone finds any home remedy or any over the counter medicine that helped, please let me know. Let me add that I never had any abortions or miscarriages, and it has been almost 13 years since I was last on the pill, and over 6 years that I have not taken any sort of birth control.

Hi all, just reading all these posts and WOW!!! i hate to say it but im sooooo freaking glad im not the only one!!!.... Ok so I've been bleeding non stop for the past 10-11months with maybe a couple of days every 1 or 2 months with nothing.... Its really heavy and really dark almost black (i have to use a preggie pad and change every few hours) and its sometimes coming out as HUGE clots (really uncomfortable). Im 30 and overweight and also have poly cystic ovarian disorder have had all my blood work (thyroid iron rah rah) done and they have all come back negative where its meant to be and positive in the other good places and apart from the PCOD im as healthy as a horse - Ive been to my doc a couple of time about this now and she's put me on PRIMOLUT - N (Norethisterone) in a vein attempt to stop the bleeding - it has decreased it (to the point where i can get away with wearing a liner YAH XD but if i get aroused or am an hour or 2 late taking my pills then it gets heaver :-( again. And when i do come off it to actually 'have' my period it hurts so much (nearly doubled over in pain)... doc has said that she is referring me to get an ultrasound (have to wait 30 - 40 weeks for the scan tho cause its not important enough apparently must be a male doc lol ) and to a gyno but haven't heard anything from the gyno yet... but not really sure what else to say but good luck everyone i hope things work out for yall...

So I am definitely glad like everyone else that I am not alone on this, it'd be great if this wasn't happening to any of us. I won't go into detail and reiterate what everyone else has said so far. I haven't gone to the doctor yet because I don't have insurance but I am noticing a slight common theme here... most are either between 17-25 and are over weight (or have gained a lot of weight in a small window of time). Am I anywhere close? I am wondering if the weight thing has a lot to do with it. At first my girlfriend and I thought it was because we were having too rough of sex. We were worried that she tore something.... and we kinda blew it off, but the more I read about everyone else having these problems the more I simply don't think that's the case. I have been bleeding since August so..... 3 mths now.... I am very worried.... :-\ I am hoping that if I lose a bit a weight, eat healthier or something to stabilize my hormones that things can turn around for me, and definitely for everyone, but who knows since it's different for all of us. What works for some may not work for the best because our bodies work way differently and because some of us have different situation.

I am hoping in my case this works if not I am going to have to find a way to get to the doctors. Thanks everyone.

I've been bleeding now for about 7 weeks ... the first three weeks were really heavy and I lost a lot of blood. I ended up getting really anemic and went to the ER. they took me off my regular birth control pill and put me on a stroger dosage to stop the bleeding (as well as some OTC iron suplements) ... that really didnt help much the next week my GYN performed a D&C and Hysterscopy, and told me to keep taking the hormones. but i kept bleeding.... i went back for my two week follow up, and he told me to stop taking the hormones (bc it was too high of a dosage to be taking everyday) and meanwhile I'M STILL BLEEDING!!! I think my Dr. is a quack. i've gotten every diagonsis from my weight causing high blood preasure (which i dont have or have ever had) which in turn causes 'breakthrough bleeding', to PCOS is causing irregular ovulation , heavy periods and my being overweight....

This whole situation is upsetting, and frustrating and scary. Im only 24 years old. I just finished school and have no idea whats happening to my own body.

it feels better knowing im not the only woman in the world having this issue and who have been dealing with it much longer than I have

Dear Friends,

please refer this website for a treatment plan and make sure it is followed by your physician, preferably gynecologist.

there are MANY causes of dysfunctional bleeding... take matters into you own hands if you have to and make suggestions to the MD for your workup and followup.

Yours in solidarity.
