I just turned 30 years old, and have been bleeding almost everyday for 10 months now. I started bleeding as soon as I stopped taking Birth Control Pills, and haven't stopped. I waited 3 months before talking to my GYN. I had blood tests, ultrasound, and a biopsy of my lining. I have higher than normal levels of estrogen, but everything else appeared normal.
My GYN perscriped me 100 mg Prometrium on days 14 - 28 of my cycle. This didn't help. I was then perscribed 2 mg Estradiol for 25 days, with Prometrium for the last 10 of those days. I was told I shouldn't bleed while on Estradiol, but I did all but 2 days.
I am worried that I could have cancer or a thyroid problem. I will be working on my next steps with my doctor soon, probably more tests, then will get referred to a Reproductive Endocrynologist. I also plan to try Eastern medicine because Western hasn't been successful.
It makes me feel better that I am not the only person with this problem. I plan to go through all of these messages to see if I can demand any specific test from my doctors based on what has been succesful for you.
Thank you.

I'm new here so bear with me. I am 21 years old and back in 2007 I was diagnosed with PCOS and because I would go forever without having a period so my doctor put me on birth controls to regulate it. However, a few months later I lost my insurance and ever since I stopped taking birth control, I have been bleeding since. So I've been bleeding for 3 years. Sometimes it's light, sometimes it's heavy. I'm starting to feel tired all the time and where I work I have to stand alot and move a lot and the bleeding gets worse! I'm starting to get very emotional!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one going through this. I hate not having insurance

If you know that BC regulates you, you can go to a planned parenthood clinic. You don't need health insurance, and you can get free to really cheap BC based on your income.

I think we have a health department here and that's it. I don't know if it's the same or what but I will definitely give them a call. I mean, I have a job and I can pay for them monthly but just can't afford the doctor bill and the pills too unless they base it on my income. Thank you so much for your help! Constant bleeding for 3 years is beginning to get to me!

My periods were regular until I went on the Depo injection in 2007. I bled continually with maybe 1-3 days/month with reduced spotting. This Jan. 2010 I stopped taking the Depo, hoping to let my hormones balance back out to normal. Unfortunately, I'm still bleeding, using 3-4 SUPER tampons/day. No cramps or discomfort, it's just annoying. The fact that my bleeding hasn't changed now that I'm clearly off the Depo for almost 6 months concerns me. :(

Like many of you I am in my early 20s (23 - nearly 24), am overweight (have been all my life), and have had a troubling menstrual "cycle" since I first got the curse. In my case I started at 14, and it was never regular. I would go for months without my period showing up and then be stuck with it either for longer than it should be or a very heavy flow. At about 16 it changed, so that I would have months without and then the period would also last for months - sometimes as much as 6 months of continuous bleeding, though it wasn't a constant flow - it would vary. In the last five years it's gotten progressively worse, to the point where I've had maybe a year's worth of days where I didn't bleed (or bled so little I didn't even need a pantyliner) in the last 5 years.
I've been bleeding continuously for about 8 months (maybe longer - I don't even keep track of when it starts anymore). Two days ago the bleeding got heavier than its ever been. I'm soaking through super absorbency tampons every hour to two hours and passing large clots. I've never seen so much fresh blood in my life. I don't really have any pain, just a heaviness in my abdomen.
I've never been to the doctor about it - I don't like them, I don't trust them, I can't afford them, and I'm incredibly uncomfortable with the notion of having some stranger poking around my delicate areas. This problem has been keeping me from living a normal life for years, and now it's getting to the point where I'm actually frightened instead of just disgusted. Unfortunately, given this heavy bleeding I'm thinking it's time to give in and get help. The trouble is I don't have health insurance, and I don't know where to go to get help. I'm frustrated and I'm scared and I'm incredibly tired of all this.
I appreciate having seen the stories you ladies have been kind enough to share. It's a relief to know I'm not the only one this is happening to, although I wish not a single one of us were so afflicted.
Tomorrow I am planning on calling some of the local docs to see what they have to say, and whether they can direct me somewhere I may be able to afford some medical help. It's very difficult for me to even talk about this problem - I find it shameful and embarrassing, so it will be very hard to overcome the urge to keep quiet and hope for it to pass.

Hi! I'm 22, 230 pounds, Never been pregnant. My periods were always irregular from I started seeing it at age 11. I was off and on birth control to regulate it but it never started a normal cycle. In the past two years I started seeing my period for a whole month when it did come (every other month). On the 15th of July 2010 my period started (light as usual) on the 3rd of August my period was apparently over but two days later I had this sudden urge to pee so I went to the bathroom and in the toilet was clots of blood me thinking I'm having a miscarriage (have a sis who experienced on) went to a doctor who took some tests (all negative) prescribed Provera 10mg tablets (one twice a day for seven days) on the second day it STOPPED the bleeding but he also prescribed Femiane (21 birth control tablets) which I was directed to take after the Provera tablets were finished.Three days on the birth control I started spotting brown (old) blood, 8th day it turned red and was MY normal light period. 17th day on the pill back to clots of blood so I finished the pills (just to say I tried) and just got back from a different doctor, went to get a second opinion today but did the same tests, negative for tumors, polyps, stds, cyst, not pregnant,no problems with my wombs nothing. No explanation for the bleeding. He told me that seeing as the Provera stopped the Femiane was probably to light for me (trial and error phase) He didn't prescribe the Provera again only he switched me to Cilest 250mcg/35mcg tablets (21 birth control tablets).1 Tablet twice a day until my period stops or I run out of the first box. IF IT STOPS he says to started taking them the normal way skipping the seven days to allow a period and starting again.IF IT DOESN'T STOP he said to come back before refilling the prescription. My fingers are crossed!!!!
I came across this site just trying to find an explanation for why this is happening it was interesting to read them and a relief to know I am not alone.

Guys, I noticed a few people mentioned having had the contraceptive injection before this started? I had that too. Which stopped my period completely for 3 months at which point i should have had another injection, but i didnt like it so i didnt bother. Since then i havent taken any contraception but have been bleeding for months. I am 21 years old and this is really affecting me. I dont know if its directly related but lately I have also started losing my hair. Maybe its the stress from the bleeding, or maybe its to do with the hormonal imbalances.
Off to the doctors this week as I am supposed to be going on a spa holiday with my partner this week... wont be swimming if I cant sort this out :-(
Good luck everyone!

I am 16 now and iv bled for nearly 11 months!, and i know its bad but at 15 i fell pregnant. Skipping alot i gave birth at 21 weeks and unfortunataly the little fella couldnt make it. I got told i had a candidal infection, (this isnt the cause btw) since the birth I HAD 2 DEPO-PROVERA INJECTIONS. i noticed i was bleeding longer than i should so i came of it on the start of june. but... the bleeding never stopped. My gynacolagist after the birth never checked me over when i went back for a check up (WHICH IS WHAT ITS FOR!) i kept going to the doctors as i way only 15 so it was free and i still never got any check overs!! they told me it was the injection.. so they gave me the marvalon pill and said it would straighten it out, i refuse to take it as im only 16 and shouldnt be messing with my hormones as im already VERY HORMONAL. it has now been eleven bloody months and im still bleeding. now and again like every month i will get about 3 days where i dont bleed which is the rong way round, so i am going back to the doctors today and I WILL NOT LEAVE THAT ROOM TILL I GET EXAMINED! i think personally the reason why the doctors and gyn's send people away is they dont know themselves, p.s even a sip of alcohol makes the bleeding very heavy. can someone give me advice.

I have had the same issue of heavy constant bleeding for the best part of three years - but I think I have finally solved it (by myself, doctors are useless!) I think it is related to anemia which can cause heavy bleeding. I noticed because I started taking iron because my doctor said I was anemic (I thought because of the heavy bloodloss), but actually, when I take it, the bleeding seems to stop. If I forget to take them, the bleeding seems to start again. So try some iron tablets - i'm taking ferrous gluconate and its solved my problem, it seems!

I have been pretty depressed about the constant bleeding. Like the rest of you I am relieved to find others with my same issues. I started bleeding right after stopping my birth control at age 27. I am now 31 and still constantly bleeding. I have had every test imaginable and still no answers. During this time I tried to get pregnant with no avail. I eventually had to have IVF because the specialists it would jump-start my system and clear up the bleeding and allow me to have kids naturally in the fututre. Seven months after the birth of my son I started my period again and have been on it since. The bleeding is dark in color but usually a light flow. I am of average weight, exercise, eat healthy, and do not use drugs or smoke so what the hell is going on?

hi there,
i am 110 kilos and 30 years old. i have been bleeding for 6 months now non stop and prior to this, was without a period for a year.
i have never had children.
i am guessing the bleeding is due to weight gain as i went from 75 to 110 in two years. i really hope that i can lose weight and settle this problem. i have seen two specialist gynos now and they have mentioned everything from fibroids, which i do have, but aren't causing the bleeding apparently, to PCOS symptoms.. so i am going to start trying a strict PCOS style diet to hopefully change the bleeding.
it is really embarrassing and awful bleeding so much, and while i appreciate so many women writing on here too, no one seems to have the answers, do they? i do hope you all find the solution.. i will update you on my progress with my diet.

Well thank you all for all of your posts.
When these first came out, back in 2006 it had just started for me at 21 turning 22. I had been pregnant once, and miscarried after visiting the doctor that same day. I went to the ER, they did some tests and said to make an appointment to have a gyno look at me. They released me and sent me home saying i would be fine. The following Monday 80 hours after i miscarried the Dr. said i was bleeding way to much and he should have been called when it happened. I had a D & C that day. Then was given a mmr booster and a shot for BC so that i wouldnt get pregnant.
From then on, i either had terrible periods or no period at all. Those terrible periods prevented me from going to work because i could not control the flow. I hurt so bad when the clots that would come out of me were bigger then my fist. I havent been pregnant since and i am married now for 1 1/2 years and unfortunately started my period the night before my wedding. i havent been off of it since. The doctor gave me bc but it didnt work, test after test after test. No hypothyroid, no polycystic ovaries, no pregnancies, no std's. I too am at a loss, and the medical bills are hard to pay off when I have to leave work for weeks at a time.
It breaks my heart that we have to go through this day after day.
Good luck everyone.
