I decided to quit smoking permanetly. I have not smoked in 10 days at all the couple days leading up to them i smoked may be 1 at the most 2 ciggs  and before that 5 or 6 at the most a day. The job i applied for does not hire smokers and i thought i had more time before my interview but they scheduled it for tomorow. I tried looking up the answer but could not find any definitive answers . Will i pass??

Hi there

Cotinine is usually the test of choice to evaluate tobacco use or exposure to tobacco smoke because it is stable and is only produced when nicotine is metabolized. Cotinine has a half-life in the body of between 7 and 40 hours, while nicotine has a half-life of 1 to 4 hours.

If you haven't smoked in 10 days, you will pass this test. But, you must be honest with them. Mention about your willingness and resolve to quit smoking. Not to mention secondary smoke too can cause erratic readings. Good luck
