I was wondering if there is some difference between crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome. As far as I know, basis of crohn’s is granulomatous inflammation. On the other hand, IBS is more a functional disorder. Crohn’s can lead in some cases to cancer. However, IBS is less likely to lead to this fatal outcome. Can anyone tell me some other differences? I would appreciate it.

Hi, there. You are right. Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional disorder. It can cause abdominal pain, cramps and diarrhoea. It does not progress in time. Crohn’s disease is more severe. It is an inflammatory disease of bowel. It progresses in time. In smaller number of cases it can lead to bowel cancer. I hope this helps. If you need more info, consult an expert.
