I woke up at 3 AM this morning feeling a crushing pain in my upper right chest. It seems to hurt more when im laying down or even leaning. The pain also goes into my right arm but it doesn't restrict movement. When i breath heavily it also hurts my chest and pressing on the the area doesn't hurt it any more. Its 4 AM now and i have no idea what to do about this. Im 16 years old and my parents are sleeping. I read that heart attacks cause pain in the chest, neck, arms, and back and i fear that i may be having some heart issues. Also im recovering from the stomach virus and if it means anything i threw up about 7 times yesterday. what should i do?

Hi! I found that the three most common causes of chest pain in teenagers are musculoskeletal (pulled muscle), respiratory (pneumonia and asthma) and gastrointestinal (gastroesophageal reflux or heartburn). Musculoskeletal pain is very common. Many adolescents have chest pain consistent with a syndrome called “precordial catch.” A sharp pain in the chest that lasts for 30 to 60 seconds is characteristic. This condition is not serious and disappears with time. It may be aggravated by poor posture and regular stretching and exercise may be of help. A cardiac cause of chest pain is very rare in your age. It may also be related to your stomach flue.
