Okay, so, I've had it since I was 12.. well at least that's when I discovered it. To tell you the truth I'm not 100% sure it's a cyst, but based on the feeling I get when I feel it (like a ball of play dough, all round and it rolls around when I feel it), plus a LOT of people in my family had cysts removed; Including my brother, dad, grandpa, and my dad's brothers. Anyway it was really small & all so I just ignored it. On top of that I felt no pain, so I was like, heck. But now.. 5 years later, I'm 17, and I've noticed it's no longer on my neck.. instead, it's more on the back of my head, near my hair.. And now I'm getting really freaked out, 'cause the last thing I'd ever want was to be bald :(. Or even have a bunch of bald spots.. Unless it's just a slight circle just in the area where the cyst was removed, I'll be o.k with that.. And do you think maybe it moved around, or grew even longer? It also itches sometimes.. and there's like a pimple on top of it from the outside of my skin. Should I be freaked out :L. I plan to get it out this 2012 for SURE.

I don't think you have the condition mentioned by bshd13...

Cysts are VERY common, almost everyone will get at least a couple throughout their lives. They're not dangerous as long you don't go poking/squeezing at them, as they can easily become infected and could turn into an abscess. You won't be bald as a result of this cyst, when you are having it removed, all the surgeon/nurse will do is shave the area around the cyst. Your hair will grow back.

A cyst can easily grow and can be there as long as it isn't treated. You could try doing a heat compress a couple of times a day for a few weeks, see if it helps. Basically all you have to do is soak a piece of cloth in boiled water for a few minutes, then press it firmly against the cyst for 10-15 minutes. This will encourage it to either come to a head [then it will look like a whitehead spot] only THEN you can squeeze it, or be re-absorbed into your body, which is the best outcome, as it won't leave you with any scars.

I have just been told I have a cyst in the back of my head, and will have to get it out. Is this a normal procedure, and is it serious? Any advice on this procedure?
