I was diagnosed with CV almost 10 years ago and it's been a constant battle for me but I've found two things that help, one I'm hoping will be my cure. Boric acid gel caps are awesome but messy. I buy the empty gel caps at the health food store and a bottle of boric acid powder on amazon. Just push it up there with your finger. This controls symptoms but doesn't get rid of it. Secondly, I recently discovered while on a trip to Mexico that being in sea water or salt water (they had a salt water pool) nearly cured me! I didn't use the boric acid a single time and my vagina was completely normal for the first time in years! I was there for 5 days and unfortunately within a couple days of being home it went back to the familiar symptoms. Apparently sea salt has been used to treat many kinds of vaginal infections such as BV and yeast so I've started a treatment plan. I have a waterworks douche that I fill with a mixture of 2 cups warm water and one teaspoon sea salt 2 x a day. When I get a bigger container of sea salt I'll start sitting in a bath with a cup of salt. So far my results are very promising and I feel almost normal! It's just difficult to do twice per day with my boyfriend around. So far I've been able to hide my problem from him because the boric acid allows me to live a pretty normal life, just no spontaneous sex because I have to wash the rest of the pill out. anyways, I'm encouraging everyone to try the sea salt method! In the past I've been to 4 gynecologists, been on many rounds of antibiotics, which would help till I quit taking them. I tried baking soda, lemon water, tea tree oil, probiotics, rephresh, preseed, luveena, tumric, folic acid and god only knows what else. The salt water is THE BEST results I've had in all of these years since boric acid came into my life. And yes, alcohol and sugar will make your symptoms worse. But I drank all weekend and because of the salt water I'm still good! Good luck!

I wonder if Epsom Salt would have the same effect or if it needs to be sea salt? Have you tried Epsom Salt? I'm at my wits end!! Baking soda seemed to just make me worse. Your insight has been great!

I'm not sure about the epsom salt but no harm in trying at this point! Update since my last post 11 days ago... I did the sea salt douches 2x a day for one week. SYMPTOMS ARE GONE!!! Everything down there is 100% normal, which is actually difficult to know because it's been messed up for so long. But it's normal :) I'm keeping A VERY CLOSE EYE on everything to see if it goes back, and if it does I'll do another week of sea salt douches. If you're not a fan of those you could try the sitz bath method they advise for when using baking soda. I'll check in again soon.

I just looked up the difference between sea salt and epsom salt and it looks like epsom is missing all of the minerals in sea salt other than magnesium. You can try use by it in a bath but I'd recommend sea salt. Don't douche with it, it's too processed.

Did the CV stay away after your week of sea salt douching?

I've tried preseed and baking soda religiously, both only working sometimes but not curing my symptoms. Has the sea salt continued to work? Thank you for your input!

Yayyy!!!! I'm so glad this has worked for you too! Such a miracle after all of these years of torture and expense. I do notice the that I should still use it once or twice a week to keep it away, but that's common for baking soda treatments as well. I suggest to anyone to do it 2x per day for a week, then once per day for another week, and then once or twice a week for a month or longer if necessary. If you've had this issue for a long time your body has adjusted to the environment it's created. You may have to retrain your body to produce the correct amounts of bacteria and that could take time. If anyone tries this please post your results! There are tons and tons of other women struggling with this and we need to get the word out!

Thanks ladies for sharing your results! I tried douching with sea salt twice a day for two days, but everything got worse. I'm wondering if it was just too harsh? Maybe I should do a gentle wash instead? Currently, the only thing that helps my cv is to do baking soda capsules. They burned at first, but it got better over time and now it only burns a little bit. The problem is that I have to do it everyday to keep the discharge away, and it seems that it's not treating at the root, but just keeping the symptoms at bay temporarily. Did anyone else have success with sea salt? I'm wondering why it made things worse for me, as I was quite hopeful that we had found a solution for this pesky condition. I can't believe they don't have a cure for cytolytic vaginosis yet!

Anyway, please continue to share your results so that we don't lose hope!

did you use sea salt? I'm sorry to hear that your cv got worse. sea salt cured my cv but i developed thrush after few days as sea salt raises my vagina's PH, now I'm on my period so a bit of relief!!! I have been referred to a dermatologist as my doctor think it might be an allergy. Actually i was reading about a lady who had cv and it turned out she had an allergy and was cured by strong course of antihistamine so I'm hoping it is an allergy! I'm fed up! still waiting for an appointment!!

It made me worse too! So did the preseed. The only things helping are baking soda douches and taking spearmint supplements. Probably cause it raises my estradiol.

I live in the UK where doctors don't believe in anything called cv or lactobacillus overgrowth but I read on few websites that a course of augmentin or 10 days of doxycylin will cure it so while i was on holiday in a country where you can buy antibiotics over the counter I bought augmentin and took it for 7 days and I'm cured!!!! been suffering for 4 months and all gone now!

Hello everyone! I'm so glad to have found this thread. I first started having symptoms (well, one anyway) of CV back in Feb of this year and it has been an ongoing problem until now. I actually had normal sex with no clumpy discharge two days ago and was thrilled! What has worked for me is a combination of the sea salt water douche 2x daily along with a small amount of preseed applied at night with a vaginal applicator. I'm not sure how long I need to do this for. I did stop for a few days about a week and a half ago and the discharge came right back. That was after doing the 2x daily douching with sea salt water (minus the preseed) for about a week.

The sea salt water douche alone did not elimate the discharge, which is my only symptom. But it did drastically reduce it. After the discharge came roaring back when I stopped for a few days, I added the preseed nightly along with the sea salt water douching and now the discharge is completely gone, for the first time since Feb.

I probably need to make some diet changes to make my body more alkaline (I have a wicked sweet tooth and love my wine) so that is my next focus. The fact that symptoms came back when I stopped for a few days means the environment down there hasn't really changed. Maybe it will after some time if I continue the douching and preseed, but I figure the diet changes can't hurt and would probably help as a long-term solution.

I'm not glad anyone else has dealt with this but I am grateful to have found this thread. I had tried the preseed and baking soda douching before without much success so the sea salt douche is clearly making a drastic difference. Not sure why the preseed seems more effective for me when used in conjunction with the sea salt douche as opposed to the baking soda douche, but I can only assume it is because the sea salt itself is more effective than the baking soda. At least for me. It's interesting that it hasn't helped everyone. I guess it just comes down to each of us having our own unique body chemistry. Anyway, I will post again at some point if things either get worse or if they improve to a point where no further "maintenance" is required on my part. But for now I have found a workable solution that is enabling me to have a normal sex life again so thank you!!!
