I have to ask something which concerns my father. Two years ago he had liver transplantation. He is going on regular checking's. Last time he went they have found cytomegalovirus in his body. Can you tell me; is there any connection between transplantation and this virus? How can he treat it?

The cytomegalovirus is a genus of herpes viruses. Infection attacks especially salivary glands. It can be very dangerous for your father because his immune system is compromised due to medications he probably had to take after the transplantation. These medicaments are used to prevent rejection of new organ by the body, but they reduce the efficiency of immune system. He will probably have to take ganciclovir or vanganciclovir. They are antiviral drugs and the other one is used orally.
