Hello, folks. My friend has been immune compromised since she has been receiving immunosuppressive drugs due to her kidney transplantation. However, she has been recently diagnosed with legionella. I would like to know how to deal with legionella within these patients. I hope someone will know to answer. Thank you in advance.

Hi, there. You have asked a good question. Legionella can be treated well if one has preserved immune system. However, what should we do with immune compromised ones? I think that just antibiotics are not enough. You must make their immune system stronger. I really don’t know details about this. Perhaps, you should consult an expert about this question. I hope everything will be all right with your friend. Bye!

Hello. I have also heard that Legionella pneumophila can affect people with weakened immune system. You can often see it in people with end stage renal failure, diabetes, chronic lung disease or cancer. Sometimes, it can even appear within HIV/AIDS patients. However, there is still no evidence that HIV infection is an additional risk factor for legionnaire disease. I guess that the treatment here is specific and not so easy. You should really consult your friend’s doctor. Perhaps, he will give you some more info. I hope he’ll be all right. Bye!
