I too was told different thing by different drs & surgeons, all told me , if I didn't have surgery, for my degent. disks in my neck I would be paralized. I have learned so much since then, had I had known what I know now, I would have never let them do surgery on me. diagnosed with cervical stenosis, I had 2 plates 4 screws later, my neck couldn't take the pressure, and the plates blew out my disk above and below plates. Dr's failed to tell me of the risk, and shortly after surgery, I was diagnosed with fibromy. 6 yrs later I'm always in pain, and have a hard time believing in doctors.

Hi solongsotired,
Thankyou for your comments.
I have found my pain level is much less since I wear a very strong magnet on my collar. Unfortunately I do not know if further damage is occurring as I have much less pain as a warning.
I did have one cervical surgeon warn me that cervical spine surgery results are usually ONLY average - so I am not going to race into it.
I have been told my hip and shoulder injuries could benefit from surgery but the risks associated with the surgery balance out any benefits. so all my joints look like I have to suffer until the necessary bone replacements are the only option. Could be 10 - 20 years. I wear the magnets on all joints.

My husband has had his neck fused from C-3 through C-7 in 2007 since than he has had nothing but problems. Just seen new Neurosurgeon that told us that he will be in pain the rest of his life because what the other doctor did they do not even do anymore. He is now getting the pain pump because his pain cannot be controlled with oral medication. He went from being an active guy to being in bed or wheelchair; that doctor pretty much took his life away he is 57 now and wasn't even able to go to our son's graduation. I am now his guardian and full time caregiver financially it is killing us because he requires around the clock care and because I am his wife they will not pay me to care for him. Our son has put off going to college to help care for dad. It is sad when a doctor can to this much damage to someones life. Has anyone heard anything about the Dilaudid Pin Pump?

18 years since my surgery, fusion on C5-6-7 using bone graft from my hip. Few months later I began having discomfort. After visiting the surgeon who performed the surgery numerous times he said it was just the normal healing process so I decided to see another surgeon. He suggested another MRI which I did. Results were a broken fusion and that surgery was required which I had immediately. A titanium plate was screwed to the appropriate discs to stabilize the problem. Now after 18 years of being pain free I'm suffering from pain down my left arm along with numbness in my left index finger & thumb. Had another MRI which showed C4 is now causing the problem along with compression which looks like an arrowhead protruding 1/2 way into my spinal column. Can this be a degenerative thing or something attributed to my prior surgery?
