The cause is really chemicals in your food. Even Half and half have emulsifiers. The moment you stop eating preservatives, emulsifiers and artificial colors you will have complete relief in 72 hours. Works for nearly everyone that has DPU, but it requires a little effort to achieve TRUE relief without medications.

i believe this condition is the result of an intestinal parasite. See your doctor for an Ova and Parasite exam or try a parasite cleanse. Take probiotics to replenish your gut. Many people have been cured from DPU through parasite cleansing. Please have it done. Sometimes, if the parasite is dead in your stool, it goes undetected by docs but don't give up. If you want to know for sure, eat a clove of garlic.

I had to take a long course of strong antibiotics and ended up with candida infestation that was not easy to shift. At that time I developed pressure urticaria on skin (moslty around waist and edges of underwear and socks. No idea if it is related. Quercetin can be taken instead of lab made hystamines. Otherwise it is just a case of wearing loose clothing and not eating anything which would agrevate candida (easier said than done).

Thank you for giving me hope. Is it okay to take two of those pills at a time? My doctor wants me to take a Claritin (I take a generic) and an acid reducer -which I do when it's bad, but I do not want to take these every day. I will heed your advice and step up the exercise and try to get out of this vicious cycle.

I have these exact things happen to me, the one half then the other, lips and tongue. You're the only one I've ever heard of that happens this way.

For real? I've done several Whole 30 elimination eating periods, and it was reduced. It seemed to get worse at first, then better. It's been 11 years of this.....not fun!

No mine was caused by spinal trauma and surgery...17 year later. It disappeared after a double mastectomy

I call this combo my allergy cocktail. My doc prescribed this for me and it did work better than just the Claritin generic by itself. This thread has so many good suggestions and ideas about causes in here, and it was very emotional to read through after finding this last night, after 11 years of dealing with PU and not knowing hat DPU was a real thing. So sick of not knowing the cause! I'm going to get more strict on my gluten and sugar free way of eating, and add in the no chemical aspect of that, drink lots of water and try to cure myself.

Really, DPU is a diagnosis but a body is an environment, an ecosystem.
Everything that goes wrong with you body unless it's a fall or something that has happened externnally to your body...is related to the microbes in your gut. Fixing our digestive system is the key to fixing a condition like DPU. You may find out later you have Celiac ..even if you've told that you don't. The way to eat is the way our primitive ancestors ate... that is, without sugar, white flour, dairy and processed foods. Think about it.. look it up. Is a huge deal. Scientists are trying to find a way to fix our guts right now but it's a tough one. So much is going on with this topic right now... it will change the way medicine is practiced.

DAPSONE DAPSONE DAPSONE DAPSONE!!!!!!!
I can't emphasize it enough. I struggled with it for years, missed work and even had to quit a job because it caused too much pain and swelling), i couldn't perform. Most doctors didnt even know what it was. Im just an engineer with minimal understanding of human biology but after years of misdiagnosis and anti-inflammatorys, antihistamines, steroids, and other meds i did my own research (i know doctors hate this) and brought my issue to a dermatologist. After saying she'd never heard of it she sent me home disappointed, again. A few days later she called me back and said she did some research and said I did indeed have delayed pressure urticaria.

Long story short she perscribed me Dapsone. After a couple weeks my symptoms completely dissapeared. After 6 months I stopped taking the medication and have next to 0 symptoms. I get it a tiny tiny bit in feet and mouth but its usually just itchy with no swelling.

Hi, Glad to hear DAPSONE worked for you!!! I gave Dapsone a try a couple years back. As I recall, it hit me too hard and could not tolerate it past a week. Did you have any trouble getting adjusted to it? My CIU and DPU have been with me for over 15 long years. Anti-inflammatorys, Antihistamines, Steroids, have all been in my diet at some point. Now I'm taking Allegra 180mg (1/2 +1/2) morning and evening with bedtime Zyrtec 10mg. Just wrapped up a couple months on Montelukast 10mg. This was a second try. My main pain and issue is DPU in my feet !! Actually, DPU on my hands, butt, or anywhere else is manageable. The daily DPU pain on the Soles of my Feet started over 2 years ago. After I drank(1 TBS) some ACV (apple cider vinegar) for just a few days, I had a bad outbreak head to toe.
The DPU under my FEET began afterwards!! The odd thing is I don't have any physical signs of swelling on or below my feet! When I elevate my feet the pain is gone. It's always somewhere between 1-10 pain. Sometimes, I just have to sit down and relax. OK, now I'm ready to try Sulfasalazine! The side-effects have me concerned! That is if I can tolerate it! I'm 67 and very healthy with no other issues. As you know, no matter what we try, the CIU/DPU can simply vanish on it's own!!! As my doctor tells me, we need double-blind studies to confirm the actual positive effects of any medications. Meanwhile, I've been walking on my homemade insoles cut from a roll of exercise mat material. So glad more or less this DPU in the feet hit me in my retirement years. With a standing job it must be more than awful!
BTW, my first CIU bout came after my other doctor gave me a Steroid injection in my wrist!! That seemed to set off the Immune System reaction.

BTW, for all you DPU folks, forgot to mention the DIET elimination/modification routines may work for some. However, from my lengthy travels abroad, with Diet changes, environmental changes,I've not seen or felt much if any changes in the DPU. The shock of travel does impact the CIU for some days until it calms down. At that time, I just up the dose of Antihistamines. Good Luck to all out there.
