Hi, my father is suffering from dementia for several months already. He is 73 years old but I would like to do whatever I can to help him to preserve his mental vitality as long as possible. I would like to know how to help manage his problems and what are the best ways to support him.

Hi, my mother is suffering from dementia for five years already and I may tell you my experiences in helping her to preserve her mental vitality. It is very useful to give them to do crosswords and to read. Also one drink daily may help in early stages of this disease. If speech or writing ability is damaged you may try to encourage singing.
Try to stimulate person with different tasks but do not overwhelm him.
If he likes to read offer him books which he read long time ago because he want be able to remember new books.

How do I handle delusions in dementia patient? My father has dementia, and has been confusing us daughters with our deceased mother or wanting us to take him to see our mama. How do we handle this? Do we tell him she is deceased?
