I would like to know what the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are. I suspect that something is wrong with my thyroid. I recognize some of the symptoms because my sister had problems two years ago. I noticed that I’ve been having difficulties with swallowing. Is that a sign?

There are many symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Some of the common ones are : Loss of energy, although eventually can feel ‘overdone’ and exhausted, nervous, anxious, irritable; dislike of heat, sweaty, tremor; good appetite, but again weight loss; increased heart rate or palpitations, diarrhea and muscle weakness; skin changes; swelling in throat that causes difficulty swallowing; painful protruding eyes and double vision. If you experience any of these symptoms make sure to see a doctor and check your thyroid.

As viator has already pointed out all those are the symptoms of irregular function of thyroid gland which is responsible for production of the most essential hormones in our body. If thyroid isn't working properly our body is disturbed and some chemical reactions can be irregular as well.
If you suspect you could have problems with your thyroid (difficulty with swelling is one of the symptoms but it can also be a symptom of some other condition) you need to visit your doctor so he can run tests and determine is your thyroid malfunction or something else is making you tired.
Anyway, you will be treated with proper medications and you will have to see your doctor every now and then for a regular checkup.
