I had surgery on the 10th of April and it is now the 25th. I have these clear stitches in to what I am guessing are to be disolvable. There are three on my belly button and three above my pubic bone, I am wanting to know how long it will take for these to be gone because everytime I move I am ripping them?

I had surgery one week ago yesterday and had my follow-up appointment this morning. I have three spots that are really sore where the knots of the stitches haven't begun to dissolve yet. The skin is bunched up around them and the small areas around the knots are swollen. My doctor tried to pull one knot with tweezers to expose more of the thread to cut it, but the pain was too intense to do this. She told me she thought mine would break in the next couple of days because she could see they were pulled so tight. If they don’t break she said that dissolvable stitches can last up to 3 weeks. I can't imagine waiting for three weeks. These three knots of the stitches are far worse then the incision itself! Hang in there. I completely understand your frustration with it!

Here is one for you folks who are waiting for your "dissolveable stitches" to disolve... and I hope any doc out there will send me a reply...

I had breast reduction surgery in April of 2004. (Yes, 2004). I have healed fairly well considering the incredible invasion upon my body, but there have been a few areas that have concerned me. I was told by a few different docs that I was healing/had healed very well. (big scars, but like I said, considering...) Anyway, about a week ago, one of my concern areas began bothering me more. Without going into the gory details, I now have 2 stitch knots and at least two other areas where stitch "string" is coming out in an area about 1/2 inch in diameter under one breast. I have been trying to pull them out without much luck, and putting gauze and bacitracin on the area day and night. There is a lot of infection in there that seems to be clearing up, but I am concerned that more scar tissue will grow, more infection could come, and the bits of stitches will never come out. If there had been no infection, I would not have even bothered with it. I hope the rest of you have better luck! .
(By the way, a friend of mine had the same surgery and the same doc, and had none of these problems, so mine is not a common story, I am sure)
