I found out that a stitch was left in my eye after my cataract surgery; it broke causing irritation.  I was told it is not uncommon to leave a stitch in the eye.  They do not dissolve.  The part causing the iritation was removed but the rest is embedded in my eye.  This does not seem normal but would like opinions.  If it is not a problem, why not leave them all in?
