My wife had a breast cancer surgery 5 days ago. She went to a surgery after a long struggle and different ways of therapies. The operation last for several hours. There were some complications during the procedure. When she was awake she did not know who she is or where she is. Now she feels disoriented. Is this going to stop? Will she feel normal again?

Your wife is very lucky to have such a devoted husband. Do not worry it is something that often follow surgery. Disorientation could be from narcotic pain medications, sleep deprivation or consequence of those therapies you have mentioned. These effects will improve and she will be back to normal. She need close follow-up from your doctor and additional neurologist.

Well,
The anesthesia can affect people when they wake up in many ways. Some feel disoriented some feel dizzy and the have nausea. However this only lasts for day or two. Now your wife is have this problem for five days now and it is little strange that she hasn’t recovered yet from the surgery and anesthesia. I know that the breast cancer surgery is very complicated and people need time to recovery but this is little strange to me. What did her doctor say about this? Did he gave her any medication for the recovery process? Maybe she has some side effects from the medication that she is using right now.

All the best,
Nelie
