Hi,
I'm 15 and since October 2011 I have been having visual blackouts and afterwards dizziness. I went to see my doctor about it and they said it was an Iron deficiency, I have been taking Iron tablets with no effect. Recently I have been recieving quite vigourous headaches. Mom won't take me to the doctors because I according to her 'Do not eat enough' although I am forever eating and drinking. Can you please tell me what could be wrong?

Hello,
have you considered that maybe it's migraines? When it comes to doctors you should always get a second opinion. Eating large amounts doesn't mean anything if you are not eating the right amounts. It's not quantity but quality. If you are taking the iron as directed by your doctor and you are still having episodes than you are either: 1) your body is not able to absorb the iron properly therefore it won't matter how much iron you eat it won't do anything for you or 2) it's not the lack of iron that is causing your episodes. The brain is very complicated and still remains a mystery. Doctors will do the best to try to figure it out and when they can't your problem gets labeled as idiopathic ( unknown causes). Either way it's not something you, or your Mother, should take lightly. I would recommend you start a journal and write down the times, dates, and what you were doing before when the episode occurred. Also, document how long the visual blackness occurred. Magnesium , excedrin for migraines, co-q10 ( a vitamin supplement) are also good for migraines, if that is what you have. By any chance was it your primary doctor that told you to consume more iron or was it a neurologist that said it? A neurologist is who you would want to see, they are specialty doctors for the brain and nerves.
