I'm 20 almost 21 and I would like to start swimming again. But I have a good amount of hair on my chest, and I don't want to shave it if I don't have to. Does it really effect the way you swim? And .Why do most swimmers shave there chests?

Most swimmer shave their chests because the hair creates drag and slows you down.

Are you swimming competitively? If not it shouldn't matter.

Hello there,

Since medic-dan has already answered your question I would just like to add few things.

I am into swimming myself and I have been practicing this way of recreation for a few years now. At first it was very disgusting to me the fact that professionals are shaving and even worse waxing hair from their chest. I knew how gross this can be because I was watching my wife during the operation of hair removal several times.

But when I was trying to get some better results I have noticed that the hairs are bothering me and few times I was absolutely sure that this was the cause that I couldn’t make my personal best record. So now I am waxing these and I must say that my wife likes this idea as well.
