Hello, folks. My friend has been suffering from systemic sclerosis. He has been diagnosed this disease recently. I know that he has some skin changes, but I would also like to know if systemic sclerosis includes changes on inner organs. I would really appreciate this piece of info. Thank you in advance.

Hello. Yes, systemic sclerosis can affect inner organs. Digestive system is the most common location of these changes. There can be problems with swallowing of food. Since the movement of intestines is compromised, there can be problems with absorption of nutrients. There can also be problems with bowels, so one can expect problems with defecation. Blood vessels are also affected. As a result, there can be headaches or even stroke. Pulmonary hypertension is also a possibility. I hope this helps. Bye!
