I understand the importance of hydration. After all most of our body weight is water. Therefore, I always carry a bottle with me. I read somewhere that if you sweat heavily you also lose some salts, sodium mostly and should replace it by ingesting more. Is it true and if so how much should I take?

It is true that you lose some minerals by sweating. Zinc and magnesium are among them. You should be worried about them. You lose sodium too but since our diet already contains too much sodium, I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you. You should take some good multivitamin multimineral formula to replace other minerals lost during exercise. Apart from extreme conditions, you do not have to worry about sodium.
