I had an epidural with my first child 2 years ago. Before I left the hospital she started giving me hard time nursing. This continued consistanly for the first 9 weeks. It never caused any weight problems so the doctors were unconcerned. I continued to periodically have a hard time getting her to nurse for 9 months. I guess what my question is can an epidural have a long term effect on an infants sucking reflex?I had an epidural with my first child 2 years ago. Personally, I do not think it has anything to do with their sucking reflex. I had to have an epidural with my son and it didn't do anything to him. Maybe your daughter just has a harder time latching on to suckle. Always ask your doctor though if you have any concerns.
