I was only 21 years old at the time. This was my first pregnancy, I also was already in my 9th month very close to my due date when i found out that i had very low potassium. Why my original doctor never caught it earlier? i don't know. Because of that my original doctor said it would be best if i had a c-section. i would say a week later i had went into labor, but this time i went to a different, but better hospital to have my baby. The new doctor was waiting on my results to come in, they finally arrived. He soon also discovered that i had low potassium. I told him that my original doctor said that i would have to have a c-section because of it. He looked at me and smiled and said"It's a good thing you came here because he is wrong, its best if u have your baby vaginally because if you were to have a c-section it would be harder for your wounds to heal." During my labor i asked for an epidural. The doctor told me because of my low potassium i couldn't have one. That surprised and disappointed me at the same time. Especially being a first time mother giving birth. So frustrated and in pain i finally went through having my baby naturally. After my baby girl arrived i was actually glad to experience a natural birth. I am now 19 weeks pregnant with my second child and now on potassium pills. I am now able to have an epidural this time because my potassium levels are normal now!
