I agree with EN possible being related to hormone fluctuations. My breakouts tend to coincide with my period and I too first noticed EN after starting birth controll pills. My EN always seems worse during times of high stress also.

PREGNACARE TABLETS seem to be what caused mine

I have been suffering from erythema nodusm for the past 3 months intrigued as to why I had it. The Doctors said not to worry as I  am pregnant and that can be a cause. However,  I became increasingly concerned after another flare up yesterday and a visit to A & E after my foot doubled in size and I couldn't walk. They took blood and a urine sample to check but everything looked to be okay and i was sent away with extra strong painkillers as there was nothing else that could be prescribed during pregnancy.

After lots of worrying about what could be causing it, the penny has finally dropped. I have been intermittently taking Pregnacare tablets but every time I do, I appear to get another outbreak.
Needless to say I will no longer be taking the tablets - has anybody else experienced this?

I have reoccuring erthema nodosum. My Dr. does not know why it is happening to me an assumed it would not come back. This is my third episode. I have had a biopsy and am put on prednisone for it. Some believe that it can be connected it to food allergies. It is not time for me to really look at my diet and try to find a trigger.

If i would have to go through it again even once, i would take me that time to think about the food. Maybe you are allergic to bread and bakery products. Try consuming more protein rich foods and avoid flour products.

Imo more likely you are sensitive to birth control or having some other issues.

I will be completely honest here...I hate it! And when it reoccurs, I get pretty angry and cry. It is SO painful and the joint pain is always a guarantee along with a constant feeling of extreme tiredness. I think what upsets me the most about EN is that it occurs random or so it seems. I have been diagnosed with Celiac Diseaese and I do get Brochial and pneumonia so my DR and I are in agreement that it could be caused by medications such as penicillin, sulfur drugs, the Celiac Diseaese itself or I just have it cause ai have it...also I have had breakouts that covered my legs and it makes living tough. People and dogs especialally bumping your lesions and it's so painful. Also it looks terrible. The best you can do is support your wife in the ways she needs you to. It's good that you are concerned because this has quite the emotional/mental toll on a person, trust me I know! BTW I am a 37 yr old woman and I have already had a complete hysterectomy at 28 as well. I first got EN at 16 after starting the pill to manage painful periods. I had it off and on until the hysterectomy. I went 8 yrs before experiencing it again and I've had it twice now (currently as well) My doctor gives me Vicodin for pain. Best Wishes!

I was diagnosed with erythema nodosum a few years back, the only thing that will relieve us of pain quicker is a strong steroid normally a zpak. then again I am in my first pregnancy and its flaring up, and steroid isnt an option when pregnant. Speaking from my own scenario, I get it about as severe as it comes according to my specialist, it is painful, and stress can make it worse. Try to remain calm, dont fret, and remind yourself anytime you get discouraged that it is temporary! Mine lasts a tad bit longer, but 6 weeks seems to
be a good avg. That is the swelling, painful period, the reduction period and the after math bruise like stage. You will be fine :) just stay positive, and pressure socks are very helpful

I have it do to Crohn's disease. Yes it is very painful and very uncomfortable. I used to get it more along my ankles and shins but now it tends to go wherever which makes it very tiresome.
