You probably get this alot but the smoking can easily cause dizzyness and fatigue because it affects not only the brain cells (which die with every puff and the brain can not regenerate) but the hemoglobin (carries oxygen) in your blood cells. This makes less oxygen get into your body. The same if you are around carbon monoxide (from cars or things that run on diesel gasoline). I recommend cutting down on smoking or quitting all together. Its easier to quit while your young. When you get older then your body will sag quicker due to the lack of oxygen. Drinking and smoking together are worse but i drink as well so its not really harmful exept in excess. Eating an icecream sandwhich or something sugary will help the lightheadedness.

I am a 30yr old women of two kids. I have been having random dizzy spells for the last 3 days. With these dizzy spells I also feel lightheaded, very fatigue all the time and my whole body feels heavy. I am 5'7" and weigh about 125lbs. so my body shouldn't feel this heavy all the time.  I have them when I am standing, walking, sitting and mostly laying down in bed. My 11month old woke up in the middle of the night and I went in to comfort her and this is when I had my first one. Since then if I have any sudden movements I have one and like I said pretty random though. I am on the pill and have only been on this one for only 3months. I don't smoke and I am a social drinker. I do daycare so I am always on my feet and very busy! I am also on Levothyroxin for hypothyroid. Any thoughts out there?

I am a 17 year old girl and I have been experiencing the same things for the past few years. I am actually so exsausted that I am missing a lot of school but it's like my body has just lost all of it's strength. I get headaches quite often but lately just getting up from a chair causes me to become very light headed. I have been sleeping a lot but I'm always tired. And I always seem to feel so weak. I'm not sure what it is because I've had this for like that last two years. At this point I miss at least 3 days of school a week. I am not on the pill and I take vitamins. I don't know if it would be anemia or what. Any ideas?

I have experienced this as well. While I am not here to say one way or the other about the contraceptives, my spells of lightheadedness and fatigue greatly increased when I decided to humor my doctor and come off of them. I am 26 female and for the past few years the spells would come on and off. Never thought much just figured with an extreemly chaotic life I was stressing my body out. That was true in a sense, but I took my doctors advice to slow down, and eliminate some of the factors that could be taking such a toll on my body.

After series of tests I have found that I have lupus. Not exactly what I wanted to hear but something I always felt could be the cause. Please don't think I am suggesting this may be your case, but as a suggestion to give yourself the opportunity to get a unbiased diagnosis from the doctor.

My mother has Lupus and even though there is still much debate if it can be hereditary, most doctors humor that idea and still try to rule it out. Because of my age (which is prime for lupus to show it's ugly head) and lifestyle, for the longest time fatigue and vitamin defeciancy was to blame (said my doctor). After learning to manage the stress of career, relationships, putting down the cigaretts, and coming off birth control did not resolve my symptoms my doctor finally started to dig deaper. I still continued to have a glass of wine on occasion, but do not drink like I did when I was say around 21, 22.

Even though I don't feel I should have had to make all these changes in lifestyle for an acurate diagnosis, I am glad I did because I am able to manage the cards I have been delt a lot better. Hopefully with you it is just a case of being young, and having a fun, hecktack, and sometimes stressful life. It could very well be your body saying you just need give it time to catch up every once in a while.

Hi Gals:  I've been reading some of these responses and wanted to let you in on what I found to be an issue with me.  I have all the mentioned symptoms that have been listed:  dizziness, tiredness, weak legs and joints...  A few years ago I had the depoprovera(sp?) birth control shots and stopped having a period completely.  After really bad mood swings and no period, I decided to get off the shots completely.  The problem?  My period didn't come back.  And, I started to have symptoms, that led me to believe I may be pregnant, which would not be great at 43.  I took a pregnancy test and it was negative, but decided to go to my doctor to get his opinion.  He immediately asked me to get my prolactin level checked.  It came back at 109 when a normal non-pregnant woman should be under 14.  After a referral to an Endocrinologist and an MRI, it was determined that I had a prolactinoma tumor in my pituitary gland.  I've been on meds (dostinex) for a few years, but have had side-effects from the meds.  they don't operate on the tumor unless it's over 10mm.  Mine was 8mm.  The meds will probably be taken until I go through menopause, but at least I had an answer to my problem.  Now we are checking my hormone balance, as I've had the weak legs recently and want to make sure I'm not depleted in iron or vitamin D.  I do suggest a full hormonal work-up, as they can cause havoc in your life.  I wish you all the best with your issue and fast healing.  By the way, over 25% of women have the pituitary tumor and just think the symptoms are from their period....

I've had the same problems. Maybe it's the birth control. I just stopped mine the other day.

I am a 46 year old female who does not take the contraceptive pill!! I have the same symptoms as all the above people, so it is highly unlikely to be that!!! I am fit and healthy, exercise every day, never even suffer with a cold! Ive been through a very traumatic separation/divorce so after reading other peoples comments im leaning more towards the stress thing. I am a single mother with three teenagers (as good as they are), I work, I have other family members to consider, I endure life's ups and downs like everyone else. I have visited my doctor recently who believes it to be anxiety/stress related so im off to get a test done soon. We cant presume its one thing in particular....there's a test for everything nowadays...so get tested!

Little miss attitude! I had the same problem for years on the pill and tried four different ones. Stopped the pill briefly and felt amazing. Now back on it and I feel c**p again. So it clears affects some people. Anyone on it feeling shabby..... It's worth trying to stop it to see how you feel.

Nah, these problems are not as a result of the pill in most cases. I'm a 43 year old guy and I'm pretty sure I'm not taking the pill and I've had these issues for years. Good luck finding a solution, I've been searching since 1999.

Sounds like b12 deficiency to me!! They misdiagnose when the level is 200-500 pg as NHS consider it normal. But it has been shown to be low at that level! Get an homocysteine test and MMA test and only then start taking some Methylcobalamin (5000mcg from Jarrow) lozenges quick. Then see your doc with the results. Ref: Could it be b12

According to the numbers taking the pill as a lower mortality rate than women having a children. Each body is different, and reacts in different ways.
