Hello, guys. My sister is feeling depressed lately. I am trying to talk her into going to a psychiatrist, but she doesn’t want to do that. She says she will fight against depression with exercises. I wonder whether this is possible. I am little skeptic. Do you agree with me? I would appreciate all your opinions.

Hello. Regular exercise is very important. Among other benefits, this reduces stress and anxiety. It improves sleep and strengthens one’s self-esteem. In a word, I would say that this is a good way to prevent depression. However, I am not sure it is enough to fight depression. This is a serious disease. I would suggest you to be persistent in talking your sister into going to a psychiatrist. Perhaps, talking to him will help. It does not mean she will necessarily be on medications. And perhaps your sister hasn’t got a real, clinical depression.

I believe your sister is right. Aerobic exercises like running and stuff will definetly help reduce, if not completely eliminate, depression. I am talking from my personal experience. The solution to completely eliminating depression closely lies with the problems shes facing in her life, probably.
