I experienced flu-like symptoms with my period every month for years (commented on this thread with as much a few years ago). Now, I've been off birth control for about a year so I could just let my body be without constantly stuffing hormones into it. A couple months ago, I turned to my husband the day I started that period & said, "Holy c**p, I haven't had those flu-like symptoms in forever." I honestly didn't notice when it stopped, but sometime over the course of this year sans the pill, it did.

Hi, I just wanted to say I have been experiencing very similar symptoms. A few days before my period I would get a sore throat, a low grade fever, and terrible all over body aches. My doctor first thought it might be fibromyalgia as my mom and grandpa both have it, but after realizing it lined up with my periods I went to see my OBGYN who put me on an estrogen patch. That seemed to help quite a bit at first and eventually I stopped having symptoms. But then I started having symptoms even while not on my period, so I'm back to thinking it may be fibromyalgia. Symptoms are definately worse while on my period however. I also have Mirena and have had it for about 3 years and was thinking of taking it out to see if its related. I am 28 with two kids and feel way too young to be having these symptoms! Lets hope we get this figured out. I also had a full blood work up and they found nothing.

Women's Bodies Women's Wisdom written by a progressive woman doctor, outlines symptoms like sore throat, fatigue and weakness associated with our periods as a normal part of our cycle. We have high energy after our period and before ovulation, she says, and then as we move into premenstrual and menstrual time, we need to slow down, and if we don't pay attention, the symptoms just get stronger. About every third period I experience a total, crushing fatigue, with muscular weakness, dizziness, and sore throat. But I instinctively trust the idea that this is because I am trying to hard to do "business as normal" and not respect the menstrual cycle. If I let myself rest, sleep as much as I want, not do the laundry, etc it passes in a day. Hopefully this perspective may be helpful to some on this list ...

I have PCOS too and have similar symptoms.....mine started after childbirth of my 3rd....lasted for 3 years off and on infections of upper respitory, flu, staph and then it stopped then 4 years later I had another baby...my last....I was fine for 6 months and tgis time its worse....every period I either get so sick I'm in the hospital or need antibiotics. ...I have been in hospital 5 times in the last year....I have had mono 3 times in 5 years, cmv and major asthma issues....dr said periods weaken my immune system......every period for six months I have been sick and all my hospitalizations were when I was on my period. There has to be something more than weekend immune system. ....again this is my second go round with this. Hoping it will stop like it did the first time. I did nothing different. Had every test immaginable I also get random puss bumps in different places like leg, armpit, groin, buttock, back, arm.....anyone else have that? Just hoping it all dissapears like last time.....the baby is 2 now so hoping in next year all goes away I seem to get sicker as it goes on.

I'm only 20 and I feel like the old women I guard at the pool. Immediately after my period I get cold like symptoms: headache, back ache, sinus pressure, fatigue. I'm on that college diet but I take vitamins which helps during my period. I work with kids so I thought that might be the issue but I haven't been in close contact for at least a month. I'm debating seeing a doctor but I'm already on the pill, I exercise, and have a pretty active lifestyle, so I'm not really sure what else I can do. Any tips on how to deal with this?

I don't know if there is an actual "cure" for all this PMS horribleness, but I would suggest finding a new gynecologist. I too, have had the blank stare, "Your crazy" look. It's terrible. I finally found a new GYN who is absolutely fantastic. She understands; she's empathetic; she listens; she offers advice. I just googled and read reviews and she had the best reviews, so I went to her and she has made all the difference! I now even have my young adult girls agreeing to have check ups. A good GYN is so important. Keep searching!

Have your hormones tested. You could have really high estrogen and need to balance it out with progesterone and/or testosterone. I have the same condition and it is aweful.

I'm upset, hurt, and relieved to see that I'm not crazy. I'm not the only woman going through this, but, it's sad to see this is a mystery. I'm 31 with no children. I've never been pregnant. For the past 3 years I've experienced sadness and emotional sensitivity along with sore breasts before my irregular cycle. During, I have migraines, earaches, sore throat, sneezing, runny nose, and fever. AFTER my cycle I'm extremely tired, having body aches, joint pain, chills, and vomiting nonstop for at least 3 days with my hair coming out. I've been told everything from it's endometriosis, to pms, to depression, to infertility and or lack of ovulation, and even that it's all in my head. I am in tears knowing that so many of us are suffering with no answers. I began to feel hopeless until I saw I wasn't alone.
