I have extreme pain in my foot. It started only last week (5 days ago). I know that this post is VERY old but I need help. My foot tingles (ball of it and my toes especially much), i often get gray splotches on my foot at night (they tend to go away only to come back, very annoying and painful), I can't put ANY WEIGHT WHATSOEVER on my foot, but I've been on crutches the entire time. I can't lie down and the stupid thing hurts so much that I often can't sleep until I crash (I wind up in the family room recliner for hours on end and sleep sitting up).

Though I don't play many sports I would walk on the balls of my feet 99% of the time. So i've been doing a lot of Googling along with my mother and we found Frieburg's syndrome floating around the Internet and it fits. I'm going to the orthopedist in two days (TWO DAYS OF UNKNOWN PAIN LEFT, or so i hope, I wish I knew what's wrong) but I am extremely nervous/curious about treatment and really would like to be able to walk and be able to be pain-free.

I have been to the ER, to my pediatrician who recommended a foot doctor (can't remember the official term, sorry) and the foot doctor wrote a perscription for anti-inflammatories (i dont like calling them "steroids", that's just me) and recommended an orthopedist. As I said before, I'm going to go see him in two days, but as there is no physical way to forget about my foot, I'm just wondering.

I am in CONSTANT pain. If people still post on this thread, I will be extremely grateful if you can enlighten me about teen Frieburg's. ;-)

Hi all

I have suffered with foot pain since before Christmas last year. It's been diagnosed as a stress fracture, morton's neuroma and cellulitis (all at different times - not together!!)

I got referred for a foot specialist - who sent me for an ultrasound and a steroid injection in the toe. OMG - the relief was instant ... I walked three miles the following day and haven't stopped since.

I went back to the foot man yesterday and he said that the ultrasound has showed up that it was Fribergs. He said the pain might, or might not come back - but if it did just to get my GP to refer me for another injection.

I am sooo happy :)

My names Elise, I'm 13 and I got diagnosed with freidbergs a few weeks ago. I have quit all my activities and I have had to stay off of it. With crutches and a boot. It's an extreme bummer because I am super athletic. But the pain has defiantly decreased while I have stayed off it. I'm am going to go to this doctor in Boise who is amazing. Has anybody gone back to soccer after having this diagnosed? Please reply!!!! Thank you!!! This disease or whatever is extremely painful I have t for almost a year.

Hi

I was diagnosed with Freibergs a few years ago tried all of the conservative methods, wore a walking boot for ten months, back in the boot again and going in for surgery in a week. My Doc already warned me that I will never be 100% but if this will at least relieve some if the pain it will be worth it. If anyone has any advise I am open. Has anyone tried acupuncture to help relieve the pain?

Hi! I am old enough to be your mother and I was diagnosed with Frieberg's Disease 5 years ago. The Xrays show the disease has progressed. When diagnosed, I was told that I needed surgery. Now, surgery is my only option. The surgeon explained that the surgery is only 30 minutes long and is rather simple. I'm planning on having surgery this fall.As a nurse, do like I do, get all the information you can regarding the surgery. Start with your surgeon as the Internet sometimes isn't correct. Good luck!

The surgery wasn't bad, immediate recovery not bad but I am now 2 months post-op still in severe pain. Started using IFC therapy but not seeing any results. The doc says I will never be 100% I would settle for 50%.

Hi, I'm a 39 year old female long-distance runner, living in Toronto, and I had a Freiberg's diagnosis a few years ago, was put in an aircast for two months and was advised to return to the aircast as often as needed during recovery. Fast forward to last summer where, with orthotics, I ran my best time ever in a couple of races. My physiotherapist recommended Mizuno Wave Prophecy shoes, which are very "rockered" and take all of the load off the metatarsal area of the foot. I strongly recommend these (expensive! $200+) shoes which have meant that I have been able to return to the sport I love! Hope this helps!

I am a 45-year old female and I was diagnosed a few weeks ago with Frieibergs disease (avascular necrosis of the third metatarsal head - I know it's more common in the second metatarsal). My podiatrist has me in a walking boot and on crutches and says I may have to be in these for up to 6 months.  I'm very active so this has been a nightmare, but if will actually help, I will be much more motivated.  I don't want to have surgery, but if that will be the ultimate result, I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and do it.  Has anyone seen improvement with pretty much staying completely off the foot for a period of time?  Thank you!

Hi

I'm 42 had used a walking boot for 10 months still had surgery still have pain. I had to go to a second podiatrist and he told me that my first surgeon was too conservative and did not remove enough of the bone. So I will be going back in within a few months to have the rest of the bone removed and he said he would put in a spacer (not sure what that is) but still said I would not be 100%. I would just like to wear shoes and be without pain 24/7. Good Luck.

Oh wow! 10 months?! Yikes! I had a second opinion yesterday and he fitted me for orthotics and said once I get those (in a couple weeks), I won't need to use the walking boot any longer. I SOOO hope the orthotics work well! I know exactly what you mean about just being able to wear shoes and not have every step cause pain! :( Best of luck with your second surgery!!! I'm not sure what a spacer is either but hopefully it helps with the pain!
