Starting two years ago I started getting this stabbing pain under my rib area/right side. I blew it off up until about Aug '10. I saw a doctor, did and ultra sound and blood work both coming back "normal". She gave me some meds and sent me on my way.

I went back last week still having the pains, only things have gotten worse. I now can't eat with out feeling like i'm going to throw up and my stomach hurting/bloating. She is sending me to get a HIDA scan.

I also got a call today saying the blood work they did last week came back normal.

What are the chances all these tests are coming back normal and the HIDA scan will show a problem with my gallbadder?

My cousin just had hers taken out and the same thing happen with her. Normal blood work, U'S but the HIDA scan showed a problem

Hi 2509,

The HIDA scan will show how well the bile is moving from your liver to the small intestine. They inject a tracer into your blood and they follow the movement. If there is a blockage, inflammation, or a leakage it should show up.

It is a common diagnostic procedure and should be revealing of any problem.

Hope it helps, keep us posted.
