I am am 27 year old female in the Army. I fell week 3 of basic training and it took the doctors over 10 weeks to figure out what was wrong. I was told I had a pinch nerve, pulled groin, torn hip flexor. My bone scan and xray both came up negative for fractures. When I got to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and after two trips to the ER, a doctor finally demanded an MRI. Turns out I had a grade 3 femoral neck stress fracture on the compression (bottom) side. In most cases they would not do surgery on the compression side, but they did on me. I had three screws put in because I was at high risk for injuring it more since I am in the Army. I have been on crutches for 2 weeks post surgery but am able to bare weight at my own tolerance. The only pain I am having right now is at the incision site since they went through my upper quad but that is manageable by tylenol.
To everyone who is still having pain, do no give up. Get an MRI and do not settle until they find something. My doctors and drill sergeants made me feel like I was crazy because nothing was every "found." I was also told to stop taking Motrin pre surgery and to not take it anymore because it would delay in the healing process of my bones. Good luck to everyone who is suffering with this energy and do what the doctor says!! I am a runner and resting and waiting for my leg to heal has been the hardest part of this process....hang in there!
