I'm on my 7th day and I feel the same. Every tooth on the left side of my face hurts...my nose hurts...my throat hurts...my ear hurts...called the dr. he said for first week almost anything goes...I'm doing the Tylenol with Advil thing...now added Tylenol with Codeine. Will this ever end?

shouldn't be so judgmental. every procedure is different. every outcome is different. everyone heals differently.

I am sure that everyone has a different experience with surgery and we may not know why. Some women report easy childbirth and others considered it an extremely painful experience. For me, I have experienced tremendous pain after gum graft surgery. I cannot eat anything or talk. I had a meeting at work today and sounded like I was drunk because I was slurring all of my words. It feels like an ax is chopping up my mouth and I feel like crying every time I drink something, I am sure some people don't experience pain, but for me it was terrible.

Agreed. Surgery was very uncomfortable and I bleed a lot afterwards. 4 days later, there is still discomfort and I can't really eat much. Wouldn't go through this again so this one better work. Btw, those who say it was painless are either lying or pain freaks. It's tolerable but very uncomfortable

I got a gum graft last year and the pain in the donor site was unbearable. When I returned to my periodontist last week for another gum graft, I told him about last year's pain so he decided to prescribe me steroids. I highly recommend it as the donor site now feels like the pizza burn instead of an acid burn. Sweet relief! (don't expect to sleep much while you're on the steroids but it's worth it!)

I just had gum grafting today. For the 3rd time. Different areas of my mouth.
Gum grafting surgery. Is not as bad as I read on the internet. My surgeon prescribed me a medication to calm me down which I take 1 hr prior to surgery.
The pain is bearable. As long as you take your pain meds. Ice your face. Follow the instructions. You will be fine.

The one thing I am finding this time around is that I am producing more than normal saliva.
Any ideas why?

Thanks

I had gum grafting done October of 2017 and since then my mouth is horribly dry....to the point the roof of my mouth hurts. Has anyone else experienced this?

Is it normal to see a “blood clot” coming out of the site where it was grafted? I used a straw 24 hours later & am worried that I dislodged it.

Do you experience any pain at the top of your mouth since the surgery?

Hi, I ‘m 38 years old, two days ago went with my Periodontists for an implant and grafting on my right upper level side. No pain during or after the surgery, is like everything continues the same. Yesterday morning my face started to swelling, but my doctor explain to me this will happen is a normal result after the procedure.

I never took the pain meds just Advil because I hate pain meds strong ones. I don't know when I can eat again I have alot of dissovable stitches in my mouth still are not out after 12 days pain is better than it was though and swelling went down other than that slow healing. I'm washing with salt water 5 times a day. Good luck on your recovery.

I just had a free gingival graft on Friday. I get high anxiety with the idea of a surgery, but Nitrous Oxide was recommended and I opted for it since I could drive home. The procedure itself wasn't bad at all once they got going my nerves calmed down. They numb you up with plenty of shots, so you aren't going to feel anything. I highly recommend asking if you can bring headphones in for your procedure. I listened to music the entire time and it made it go by fast.

You aren't going to feel any pain until the shots wear off. I was instructed to take 3 IBU profen and 2 Tylenol every 6 hours and as long as I did that the pain was tolerable. I swelled up on Day 2 and 3 and just made sure to ice every few hours.

Eating has been going relatively well for me compared to others who have posted. First day you should stick to something you don't really have to chew, but on day 2 I was able to eat pasta.

I'm on Day 4 currently and am back to work. I've got an annoying stent/retainer they want me to wear for two weeks until I get my stitches out. Having to deal with the retainer has been the worst part hands down for me so far.

Surprisingly I haven't had any pain where they took the donor sample. It's all been on the lower half where they implanted the tissue. I imagine this area is going to remain sore for some time even after the stitches are out.

Overall this surgery hasn't been that bad, but it seems to vary person to person. I know people who have done it and had a much worse experience than I have had. Oral surgeries in general aren't fun, so I'd recommend getting a 2nd opinion before going through with the procedure.

If you can avoid doing it then go that route.
