I had a Gum Graft yesterday afternoon. It was nothing. I'm in no pain. I was pretty scared before Gum Grafting,  but I'm happy to say it went very well. I have two areas that need a gum graft. One above a tooth in the upper left side of my mouth and the other on the upper right. I think he said they were about 4-5mm of recession, but I'm not sure of those numbers. I had the upper left area done yesterday and will get the other early next year.

Hello! I've just had this surgery done and half my teeth are covered too. I was worrying that the dentist covered too much of my tooth and that I would be left with a few tiny teeth - which look so so so odd. Did your gum shrink after a while and teeth look normal size?

A year ago, my teeth were grafted as a part of Periodontal Regenerative Surgery in Dr. Steve Mocrae & Associates Dentistry clinic at Barrie. At the very beginning days after surgery, it was very painful then following the prescribed medication of dentist it was healed within 2 months. If you are experiencing intolerable pain or swelling then I would recommend you to consult with your dentist once again. Hope you get well soon.

I didn't go to a gum specialist. He took tissue from the roof (side) of my mouth to put at the bottom where I'm having a dental implant and gum was missing. I did need it. I'm on day #7 and It hurts so bad where the tissue came from on the top. I'm taking Percocet, on tab. The aftercare instructions he gave me were terrible, same instructions for general oral surgery. It's hurts as bad as a cancre sore only its 20 times bigger. I would never have had this if I knew it would hurt so bad. Ice cream makes me feel better, pancakes, cold drinks... I must have gained a few pounds from the ice cream.

I'd like to know how you are a year after you had this surgery. Are your gums better now?

I am having some of the same issues.. I am a secretary and talk to customers all day. After reading yours, I see that I may have done the same thing. Talked to much. No one told me that either. I am in a lot of pain and it is day 7..It looks so gross and to top it off they pulled tissue form my roof of my mouth and that is so sore. Stitches will come out next week. Ibuprofren hurts my stomach so it is hard for me to take any more than 400 mg at a time.. I have been take Tylenol 3 at night so i can sleep and i still woke up last night. Please tell me yours got better after 2 weeks..

I had the majority of my lower done on Feb. 6, 2017. I am to have my stitches removed on Monday, March 6, 2017. I was sore, swollen, and bruised for about a week and a half. I still have to be careful what I eat and how much I make my jaw work to chew, it gets sore. My teeth are pretty tender and sensitive when I bite down with any pressure. Excited about seeing the results on Monday.

Had this surgery recently. For me it was weeks, before,I felt better. Was out of work for one week but really needed two. Face was swollen like a basketball for 6-7 days. Could eat some soft food after a week, but mostly Ensure. It was a lot more involved and draining than I anticipated.

I was disappointed with the lack of coverage that was promised. Additionally a few front lower teeth were actually demonstrated more recession.

I had the gum graft surgery in April, it is now July and my palate is still not 100% healed. 6 weeks post surgery, he said I shouldn't have any pain at all. Now he's saying to give it 6 months. He said if I had an infection, I would know and I did finish the antibiotics prescribed at the time (zithromax). Is this normal? Because my palate is so sensitive, it has impacted my food choices. I can't eat anything really cold or really hot (it feels like my teeth are going to fall out from the pain when I do). I develop a lisp when I speak for long periods of time. This just doesn't seem normal.

I have the same issue. My periodontist said there is not a procedure for behind the teeth at this time. He said they do their best to secure the teeth with a graft in the front side and hope it is enough. I have horrible recession in the back sides of my teeth as well so that makes me nervous.

What pain meds worked for you best? Also, did you have sores on your tongue?

It was 6 days ago that i got the surgery and just googled graft recovery because the pain is still so bad. My dentist made it seem like it would be a breeze and even compared healing to a "pizza burn" YEA RIGHT!! If only I knew!! I feel your pain, wishing you a speedy recovery!
