Just had a gum graft for my two bottom teeth. Had 3 C sections. The 3 C sections and abdominal surgery was easier bc I could still eat. Going on day 9 and still in a ton of pain. It hurts to drink water. Is this normal?

Thanks.
I've been contemplating this for a while and was dreading it after reading some of the posts.
I'll be sensible with pain relief.
My alternative is implants, but very expensive and my teeth are in good condition. This seems a better option.

My advice research and find the best periodontist within 100 miles. Considering the woman likening this to child birth! My guy is a professor at a university here on Long Island and an Ivy League grad. Do your homework or apparently you may be enduring child birth. I had 2 teeth grafted 2 days ago and it’s really no big deal. The procedure I did not enjoy but I’ve always struggled at the dentist. Roof of mouth needles were the worst part. Otherwise your numb. Ok it sucked but you’ll survive it. Sweet air is a must. If your concerned about cost cut back somewhere else in life. At least get a great buzz out of this. The recovery has really not been bad at all. All soft foods, silly looking face w swelling. Considering the trauma inflicted in my mouth it’s understandable and manageable. No significant pain at all. Taking ibuprofen mostly to reduce swelling and could get by without it. I am impatient and want to get back to life but it shouldn’t be much longer. Tomorrow i’ll Go back to work and by day 5 I should be back to exercising. If you have been advised to have a gum graft find a good periodontist and just do it. I’m so glad it’s over and the build up was much worse than the event. As usual. People live to complain and talk about themselves. Stop reading this BS drama and start researching where to get it done!

I just had mine done four days ago. I would agree with the individuals who said the procedure itself does not hurt. However, the recovery is a different story. They told me that it would feel like a pizza burn. I don't really support this analogy. My face is swollen and I look like a chipmunk, I am in extreme pain in spite of the fact that I have taken the pain meds, and I can barely eat. I have lost a few pounds because I can't eat in spite of the fact that I am hungry. I don't understand the people who says it doesn't hurt. I have 12 stitches. It is just common sense that is going to hurt. I wish people told me what it would actually feel like.

I had my entire mouth grafted with AlloDerm at one time. (Bad idea).
I remember it being very painful for 3-4 days. I didn’t take medicine for the pain. I iced all day and night. The swelling was down 75% after 7 days.
By the 10th day I was able to eat very over cooked pasta, mashed potatoes etc.

I had 4 bottom incisions grafted with Alloderm, and the 4 Upper R molars grafted with my own tissue. I am 2 weeks post op now and overall pain has improved but I am still taking regular advil 600 every 8 hours or so. My right side face is still swollen but better. I should note that I also had 4 wisdom teeth extracted at the same time (not a fun combo).
My biggest concern was the appearance of the graft- appears white/yellow and gunky, I still feel like it looks like an infection or just a failed graft, but my DDS ensured me this was normal (I went and saw him prior to my post op visit because I was so concerned). I am still healing, and am trying to stay positive that I wont have to have any of the grafts re-done. I can still feel sensitivity to the upper back teeth- I am scared that I will have more recision post graft- as many people have stated they have. I had enough pre-op pain and sensitivity that I cannot imagine having more!
I had the graft done so I can one day re-consider orthodontics, as dentists do not recommend orthodontics if you have severe enough gum recession. Had it not been for this, I may have re-thought the procedure. Don't think I would have done it again.

Yes! I'm feeling all of those symptoms after gum restoration on Monday. If I have to do again, "lets hope not". I will do laser treatment. No surgery or stitches. Hoping my swelling go's away by Friday...my face looks like a monster

Did the pain go away?! I wasn’t in a ton of pain until 5 days out. I’m a week out today and I’m soooo much pain! Feels like someone is stabbing me in the mouth. Is this normal?!
